What are the similarities between the Vietnam war and the Persian gulf war?

There aren't many similarities between the Vietnam War and the Persian Gulf War but what I can say is that they both started in a different country and that country asked for the United States help. The United States plays a huge part in both wars. See in the Vietnam War the United States gets involved because our president didn't want Communism to spread across the world which would soon also end up in the United States. In the Persian Gulf War Kuwait was invaded by Iraqi and Kuwait called for help and the Unites States stepped in to help Kuwait drive out Iraqi from their country.

What was the major political consequence of the Cold War?

Basically its just a "contest" between America and Soviet Union.... they started a race to see who made the most weapons... but its crazy because a war never actually broke out!! Funny, huh?

^^That didn't really answer the question... war DID break out, in Vietnam, Korea, and Afghanistan, all "proxy wars" of the cold war between the USSR and the USA. But the political impact was that it lead to the collapse of the Soviet Union, which was communist, and became democratic post-cold war.

Did the US and a coalition of nations join to fight the gulf war?

There were three gulf wars in the 20th and 21st centuries:

1. Iran-Iraq War 1980-1988

2. Operation Desert Storm Jan/Feb '91

3. Operation Iraqi Freedom 2003-

Are there any statistics on Friendly Fire in Iraq War?

This site --->

http://members.aol.com/amerwar/ff/ff.htm

lists American ff casualties at 18%

If 406,000 Americans were killed, that places the friendly fire death toll at roughly 78,000.

And sixty years later the problem still happens with a lack of proper fire control by US troops.

Example the 4 dead and 8 wounded Canadian soldiers who were bombed by the USAF in 2001, in Afghanistan. Two F16 pilots attacked the Canadians as they were conducting a live fire range exercise. The pilots claimed that they were "under fire" from the ground. The aircraft were flying at 20,000 feet, and the ground fire was at ground targets, with small arms weapons, not anti-aircraft missiles. No infantry weapon can reach 20,000 feet of altitude.

The AWACS controller told the F16's to "hold your fire" but they didn't listen, and four young Canadians died as a result.

Just one modern example of how dangerous it is to be near U.S. army troops when you are a "friendly force".
