This is why he talks about being a criminal etc. However, his mind had always been set on a music career, being classically trained on the piano, and writing November rain at the age of 15 or 16 if I remember correctly.
Therefore this is him talking about his current struggles before going out to LA. His family life, and his ambitious while he was there.
