Hamster Behavior

3 out of our 4 hamsters make noises like that all the time! We researched it quite a bit when we first heard it to make sure there was nothing wrong, but everything we read supported what we thought... the 3 main reasons are as follows; # if they are afraid or unsettled they can make hissing or almost screaming noises - our youngest did this once when we first got her but she settled quickly # heavy breathing noises (almost like wheezing) our 3 syrians often do this when they are asleep or just waking up. It starts loud and gets quieter and quieter and can last up to a couple of minutes. I think it's just dreams # squeeking (my favourite) sometimes when we walk past a cage i hear a squeek - i look in the cage and they're sitting upright trying to get our attention... It means they want a treat or a run in the ball (but usually both) Hope this helps someone!

Well, they could have up to 3 to 16 pups. I had my hamster for a week and it had 16 babies, so if you know your hamster is pregnant be prepared for a little babies and a lot of babies. If you don't know how to tell if she is pregnant look for nipples on her stomach.

Hamsters run on their wheel because they need their excercise. They don't get enough room for any other form of excerise. They also do it for entertainment because they don't have much else to do in their cage.

Loud clicking noises are made by the front teeth rubbing together. This is known as bruxing. All rodent do it. Some hamster owners' misinterpret it as a sign of aggression, when in fact it means the complete opposite. The two incisors in the upper and lower jaw continuously grow through out the life of the hamster; these normally receive continuous wear as the upper and lower contact each other when eating normally. On occasions you may hear it periodically when he is awake and stood still, they don't do it whilst moving. They do it mostly during sleep, this is a subconscious behaviour. It may also be of interest to know they only do it when relaxed and content.

If you want her to trust you, remember her hearing isn't so good, and her vision is worse, so talk gently to her as you slowly reach for her in her cage. Scoop her up quickly with both hands. Hold her firmly so she won't fall or think she's going to fall, and keep talking nicely to her. It also helps to feed her a special treat that you only feed her when you hold her. I never feed mine parsley in the cage. I only feed him that when I hold him and now when I go to the cage, HE comes to ME! She will also benefit from a schedule. Mine knows that when the TV goes off at night, it's cuddle time, and he starts squealing with anticipation! My husband thinks it is hilarious. You will win her over in no time!

there is a big difference between them as syrian hamsters are bigger than dwarf hamsters. There is quite a lot of different types of dwarf hamsters such as, Russian winter whites, Chinese, campbells, rovoroski and maybe more. But most dwarf hamsters can live with 1 or more of the same sex and syrians have to live alone - so if your hamster lives alone then its probably a syrian. aslo syrians are about half the size of a guineapig and dwarf hamsters are about half the size of a syrian hamster.

I'm not EXACTLY sure, but it's safe to use them for your hamster. I know for SURE that Chinchillas' like 'em.

It doesn't crank? Or it cranks, but doesn't fire? Start with the three most common reasons for a no start. 1) Crank- make sure the engine is turning over fast enough to start. 2) Spark- If the engine is cranking, make sure it is getting spark to the plugs. 3) Fuel- If the car has crank and spark, check that it is getting fuel. If you have crank, fuel, and spark and the car will still not start, you may have a computer problem. Your dealer/mechanic will be able to diagnose a computer problem. Good Luck!! If it just sounds like "wrrrrrrr" and not "red red red red red" then it's your starter. Those are easy to replace, but you will need some tools. It took me 4 hours to get the starter off, and about 1 hour to put it back on. Things the haynes manual wont tell you are 1. There is a black bracer bar directly under the starter, it connects in 3 places. You have to remove that bar before you can remove the starter. After you remove that, you have to remove the flywheel gasket bolts before you can remove the starter's bolts. The starter on a 98 has 3 bolts. There is something called a 'bender' bar that connects it to the engine I believe, that bolt is really hard to get to. You will need a swivel joint for your ratchet and a 12in extension. It helps to have a friend look through the top of the engine to help you guide the ratchet. It is also handy to have a ratchet that has a 'continuous drive handle' means you can turn the handle like a screwdriver and it will work as though you are doing a turning motion on a regular ratchet. A starter for the 98 will run you about $180 to $220 from PepBoys. If it doesnt make the "wrrrrr' sound then check your spark plugs.

Well, for starters why are you spraying him in the first place?! And second of all, what do you mean by "How long will a hamster DIE?" Do you mean "How long will a hamster LIVE?"

Yes, it may be from chewing on the bars but my hamster does that and hasn't got any sores from it. He/she may have injured themselves so the best thing to do is talk to a vet and see if they can help.

I'm not sure. This is just a guess: i think it would because the hamster, or person as it may be, could have had some experience in the past (the older you are the more experiences) that leads to his or her preference of a certain color.

You should definitely take it to the vet to check that out, hamster are very prone to cancer.

Yes, hamster have VERY sharp teeth that can cause serious bleeding.

If you happen to get a hamster bite, disenfect it and wrap a piece of cloth tightly around it to stop any bleeding. Hamster only usually bite if being handled roughly or if you approch them when the don't expect it.
