Hamsters are not native to the USA, and do not have any wild colonies there.

You can feed hamsters almonds sparingly as long as they are sweet almonds (the type used for snacking).

It is important that you never give a hamster a bitter almond (which is smaller but broader than a sweet almond and used mainly in cooking) as it contains a toxic amount of hydrogen cyanide which can be lethal to small animals.

A handful of bitter almonds is enough to poison a human, so it is unlikely you will need to worry if you buy your almonds from a snack section of a store as any bitter ones that do make it to these packs will have been processed to have the hydrogen cyanide removed.

The only other concern is that giving your hamster too many can be bad as they are high in fat content. Although they are high in monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats (the good ones) and low in saturated fats (the bad ones), too many can still cause obesity and therefore lead to problems.

My fiancé and I had a black and white syrian hamster called Smudge, who loved almonds and we gave him 2-3 a week as a treat and he lived until he was 3, so they're not harmful as long as you don't give them too much and don't use the bitter type.

You can usually buy them at a pet food supplier like Petco. You can also buy them on-line if you want to. I would suggest a smaller one if you want it to live a longer life with you. Happy buying!

just tear up afew sheets of kitchen paper, put it in the cage and your hamster will make a nest out of it within a matter of mins! i use kitchen paper for my hamster and she seems to like it just as much as expensive pet-bedding...if not more :)

hamsters do take care of their young... try not to touch them as it might change e smell...

Even if it can't be treated, it's better to have the veterinarian kill the hamster gently and quickly than to let it die slowly and in pain.

If they wanted to yes. They love to chew, and paper is like candy to them. You got wallpaper and it has glue on it which makes it even more fun for them. Yah they can and will. Get them a cage lol.

Hamsters usually prefer to bathe themselves, like cats do. If they really smell, their is special shampoo for them, ask the people at the pet store. DO NOT GET IN THEIR EYES. Normally combing their hair helps keep them well groomed.

Remember that guinea pigs are small, delicate animals that can be easily threatened or frightened. Guinea pigs often bite in these circumstances, and often all that is needed to resolve the behavior is more handling until the guinea pig is comfortable being touched and picked up. Make sure you are picking up the guinea pig in the correct way and that the guinea pig has no sore spots--pain can also cause a guinea pig to bite. Also remember that if you stick your fingers out, the guinea pig may be confusing them with carrots. If the guinea pig continues to bite, firmly say "no" (don't shout or scream) and put the guinea pig back in its cage. This should teach it that biting means no more interaction (and guinea pigs usually enjoy attention, even if they bite sometimes). Never hit, pinch, or shout at a guinea pig--not only is this ineffective, but it is also cruel and can make the guinea pig more prone to defensive biting.

they can't actually be THAT harmful - but if they bite it can REALLY hurt (and cause slight bleeding!) also they can cling on to your finger quite bad! Sometimes though the your hamster just doesn't bite, other times it does. One of my hamsters clings on really bad, and the other had never bitten me whilst it was alive. sometimes they nibble, that doesn't cause bleeding and isn't at all harmful. I think they can pass diseases but other than that I don't think they're harmful.

This is a common misconception, they do not literally "fall out" of their eye socket. There eyes will bulge out of there head and there eyes will be bigger looking than usual. This tends to happen when to much pressure is on their neck, like a collar or a tug on the leash a bit to hard. During this they must be immediatley taken the nearsets vet, but if the vet is a bit to far take some precautions before going. Put some eyedrops on and wash your hands and pop the eye back in and take them to the vet to make sure everythings all right

probally because they are scared or not used to the situation, or maybe because you dont play with them enough my hamster bit me i started play with it more often and it never bit me again let them know that you can trust them

I would not advise you to bath your hamster unless he really needs it. Hamsters cannot actually swim they are just struggling. If you must you should wash him with baby shampoo and towel dry him. There is a chance that he will catch a chill so unless you really have to I wouldn't advise it.

Gerbils can be scared of lots of stuff: loud noises, new places, sharp movements, strange smells.... the list goes on for another few metres. You can tell that a gerbil is scared by the fact that It its probably very still, and is makig a very quick thumping noise.
