Start with just putting you hand in the cage until you think you hamster is not scared of you. Then hold out pieces of food and have he/she take the food. after a week of doing this your hamster should be familiar with your scent.When you try to pick up your hamster,put in a jar/cup with some food in it.Once your hamster goes in slowly lift he/she up. Hold the jar sideways and put your hand out. If your hamster climbs on your hand they can trust you. If he/she seems hesitant you can lower him back in the house and keep trying the steps again. This has always worked for my hamsters.

It depends on weather it's a mean hamster or not. Hamsters are usually better without other hamsters in the same cage. A mean hamster may kill or hurt another hamster if that other hamster has a lot of the human scent on it. If the human scent gets on a baby hamster, the parents will eat it.

You made a spelling error in your question you meant to say "why do hamsters only live three or four years" Any ways the reason is because different creatures have a different lifespan, it has nothing to do with size, because budgies can live from 15-20 years and they are very small creatures. Hamsters just have a short lifespan it is just the way their life was made to be. :) Very simple.

the dwarf hamster is normally fully grown at the age of 3 months!!!I know that is a very short period of time,but i have asked a clerk at pet supplies plus & that's what he said so im guessing its a legit answer & plus i have a hamster book that came with my hamsters & it also says that!!!:)so I'm guessing that its is true:)

All the animals that I can think of bite--except for goldfish. Russian Dwarf hammies DO bite, but it's in their natural instinct. You can tame this out of them, though. It will take a lot of time and patience. I am saying this as an experienced dwarf owner. Play with the hammiw everyday, DO NOT wake it up while its sleeping, and feed it food and treats by hand.
yes, Russian dwarf do bite, i had the same question and had my hamster answer it. Dwarf Hamsters are more 'Nippy' and more territorial of their cages than Syrian, if you scare you hamster or take it away from its food bowl it may bite if you want to try this it might help: put a towel on your hands then place the hamster on you hands with the towel on it, make it trust you again by , talking nicely to it and it should start to trust you after a while....... hope this works for everybody!!!! no fancy Russian dwarf hamsters do not bite but most other breeds of hamsters do

Overall yes they can die from mites . However it is not the mites itself which kills the hamster . It is the mange . Mange is caused for, mites and if the mites are not cured the hamster will have a very high chance of dying. So you need to get to a vet as quickly as possible or buy an anti-mite spray. Clean and disinfect cage and toys every day. Make sure you use an animal friendly disinfectant and use 10 part vinegar to 90 part water and rinse thourghly so there is no scent. Don't use pine or cedar bedding as that is dangerous for many reasons such as it containing a lot of dust which can cause respiratory problems. That is the same with wood shavings and chips. However you can freeze all bedding and food to kill all bugs parasites mites and lice. Never wash a hamster, it can give it a cold and most importantly, wet tail. When spraying hamster with anti-mite spray shield it's face so it is not in contact with eyes nose or mouth. Also spray cage as well. Please consult a vet do your research read books before you ever consider getting a pet.

Well if they like to gnaw on the cage bars which happens to my hamster is that they are trying to make their teeth strong and or sharp. Mostly my hamster's is very sharp and bit me on my finger today and it terribly hurts! i dont know if u need an aquarium arent those for lizards and stuff. Hope this helps!
