It's quite hard to come up with a "benefit" strictly of the holocaust activities of Germany. But, then again, it's difficult to separate the holocaust from the rest of Germany's activities. When the totality of circumstances is considered, there are some obvious benefits.

Probably the biggest benefit that came from the holocaust was that it cemented in the western world a general hatred for totalitarian systems of government. Prior to WWII, and until the extent of German activities were well known, the U.S. was quickly sliding toward socialism, and the presidency was quickly becoming a position of unlimited power.

After WWII, the transformation of America quickly came to a halt. Of course, this hatred of socialism brought about "McCarthyism"; however, the problems associated with McCarthyism paled in comparison to the likely affects of a socialist America.

Granted, the holocaust was a very dark time in the existence of mankind. Millions of innocent people died. While it's very risky to compare this to any possible "benefit", one thing is for sure: forgetting history causes it to repeat itself. In order to ensure that we give the souls of the innocent the honor they deserve, we must always remember what happened.
