He wanted to unite all "pure" Germans in one State. But, most of the people in these territories where also Jews and Gipsy's. They did not fit in his plan. The communisits were Hitler's first target, having 2,000 sent to the first concentration camp,Dachau, in 1933. Hitler did infact hate the Jews but did not start the disrimination against them as soon as he gained power. The first Jewish deportation was Kristallnacht...in 1938, after HItler had power for 5 years.This is why the holocaust occured- not because Hitler hated Jews and wanted to get back at them. Most Jewish people were forced to do menial, sometimes unnecessary work in their own interment camps. They also did most of the construction work for buildings in the camps and often were given other tasks around the camp for the benefit of the Jewish people living there so that the Germans didn't have to. Near the end of the war when the Nazis were getting desperate the Jewish people were used for factory workers and other jobs that were required to keep the German war machine going. Usually the Jews with blond hair and blue eyes were given jobs that were more complex and required more thinking than physical labor, like putting together plane parts. Others were given much more physically involved or dangerous jobs. More often than not the Jews were worked to death.

The German Government began its involvement with the Nuremberg Laws. The first of which was the "Law for the Protection of German Blood and German Honor" which forbade intermarriage between Germans and Jews, and the second called the "Reich Citizenship Law" which stripped all Jews of citizenship. This was a formal decleration in which the German government deprived individuals of their rights and set them apart as a second class or nationals. The rest of the Holocaust simply fell into place because it was now "legal".

German doctors performed a wide variety of experiments on prisoners at Auschwitz. SS doctors tested the efficacy of X-rays as a sterilization device by administering large doses to female prisoners. Prof. Dr. Carl Clauberg injected chemicals into women's uteruses in an effort to glue them shut. Bayer, then a subsidiary of IG Farben, bought prisoners to use as guinea pigs for testing new drugs.

Though there is very little documentation about Eva Braun, it is very unlikely that she knew very much, if anything, about the concentration camps or any other Nazi plans. Once one was actually a prisoner in a camp escape was extremely hard. At Sobibor, one of the most easterly camps, there was a riot: some prisoners managed to flee and to hide in surrounding forests and afterwards to join a group of guerrillas. There were also a few successful escapes from Auschwitz and Treblinka.

Another lesson is to speak up and make a stand when the rights of one minority are threatened. The Nazi party was able to control German society by only moving against one unpopular minority at a time - the Jews, the Roma people, homosexuals (or those who were believed to be homosexual), dissidents, etc. Had the German people resisted when the Nazi party first started clamping down on the Jewish people, the Holocaust may have never happened.

It was the top German military who said that Germany couldn't go on fighting and would have to ask for an armistice.
