If you have access to a multi-meter, do a resistance check from end to end on each core while the cable is disconnected. You should have close to 0 ohms on both cores. Do a resistance check between the cores, while the cable is disconnected. You should have an open circuit between the two. Alternatively, connect one end to an amplifier, the other to a speaker and listen for sound. If nothing is heard, substitute the cable, then the speaker and finally the amplifier to establish where the fault is.

I believe there are componant speakers in the front doors including a 6.5 and a tweeter in each door. rear doors have 6.5 in each , theres a subwoofer in the rear left cargo area possibly a 6.0 and theres two 3.s on the very rear side pillars to the tailgate.

The Sony STR-D715 is a stereo receiver. What code you use will depend upon the brand of the remote you are trying to program. There isn't one number that works with every remote. Try all the Sony Receiver codes for your remote as listed in the remote's manual. If they don't work, it seems this model may be too old to be supported.

Depending on your TV and stereo you may have digital audio inputs on your stereo and outputs (of course) on your TV: optical or coaxial. A fiber optic cable between the two being best.

With analog cable and receivers, no. With the use of HD cable receivers, the first sign of a bad splitter is audio dropouts. You should check to make sure that the splitter is rated for a bandwidth of at least 900MHz for digital cable. Changing out the splitter is very easy and cheap, so you should try to replace it and see if the problem goes away.

As Protechnik is not a recoginzed national brand (it has been linked to 'white van' back-door sales), you are unlikely to get any universal remote control that has codes for these products. Even Logitech, who maintain the largest database of infrared codes of any remote manufacturer, do not list them.

Your only hope is to use a 'learning' remote control that can learn the codes from the original remote that you got with the unit....

Yes and no. Depends on just which front surround speaker you're talking about. If the surround speaker set you have includes a subwoofer, then for standalone you really need the front speakers plus the subwoofer, as the fronts aren't designed to reproduce the bass, but rather to send the bass to the subwoofer. So if you used ONLY the front speakers without the subwoofer, then you'll have very poor bass in the resulting system. If you use the subwoofer plus the front speakers, then it should work just fine.

If you're connecting out of the device to the TV's optical in, then from the TV's optical out to the receiver, you're wasting an optical cable. Just connect directly to the receiver. There shouldn't be any sound quality difference either way since it's a digital connection, but it's much cleaner with only one cable.
