These were called Hoovervilles in honor of the then President Hoover. They were named so because of President Hoover's adamant position against the government injecting itself into the economy.

Before the 1960s, a "homeless" person was usually someone who lived in a cheap motel or a run down room. The "modern homelessness" epidemic in which homeless people often sleep on the streets probably began around the late 1960s during the rise of addictions to hard drugs. Crystal meth, crack cocaine and heroin are a powerful factor in modern day homelessness. Many homeless people are homeless because of hard drugs. Many (but not all) drug addicts choose to live a "homeless" lifestyle, which tends to stigmatize low income families. Largely because of hard drugs and the "choosing" of the homeless lifestyle, homelessness has become somewhat "normalized" over the years, which can result in communities having low standards for housing the poor.

Actually, wired telephones were available if you had the money. AM radio broadcasts were also available. Although citizens band in the modern sense was probably not around, there were ham radio operators at this time. Radios and other electronics used vacuum tubes. Many rural areas were not yet connected to the grid; but they had batteries and generators.

As of 2020, it is estimated that there are around 50,000 homeless people in Italy. This number fluctuates over time due to various factors such as economic conditions, social policies, and other local dynamics. Efforts are being made by the government and NGOs to address this issue and provide support to those experiencing homelessness.

All of the people were effected by the great depression because they were part of it. The poor people were mostly affected because they had no money or anything to eat or to go home to. The wealthy were only effected a little because they lost little money.

The types of homeless people are:

Those that eventually lost everything due to natural disasters.

People lose their jobs, with no other opportunities readily available to prevent them from missing a mortgage payment or 2 and suddenly they have nothing, but a new life of homelessness.

Others are homeless because of illness, most commonly a mental health issue(s) and don't have family or friends, anymore, as the right type of support, like adequate shelter and medical attention .

There are a lot of educated, homeless people who have fallen between the financial and societal,cracks,partially due to government cutbacks to social services and personal troubles.

No body chooses to be homeless.

It's a full time job being homeless and that's the last resort.

Many people with addictions are homeless and in and out of shelters and detox, with the hope of not being homeless, again.

There is a sub population of homeless youths who have been kicked out of their homes for being homosexual. These youths may need other services, in addition to services for homelessness.

Generally, most homeless shelters do not require payment. Since funding sources are different, however, some do require minimal payment or often manual labor (e.g., sweeping) if unable to pay.

They are said to be invisible and vermin and are classed as second class. They also often told that they are lazy and told to get a job. General attitudes run between pity and blame. Rarely do opinionated people do the research to find out the facts.

It makes the person feel powerful, or a big shot. It also makes them feel important in their gang. These people enjoy being looked upon as a leader or a very important person. Usually they lack a satisfying home life and look to gangs as a way to become a boss.

They can get their mail from a PO box or sometimes homeless shelters will accept their mail and they collect it from there.

It all depends. Sometimes to a friends house, other times to a squat house. If the weather is nice, its fun to sleep outside places such as by a river or on a roof top. To sum it up, we pretty much sleep wherever we want/ can.
