What were the causes of the Hungarian revolution?
It initially began as a student demonstration, with a student delegation entering a radio station in an attempt to broadcast their demands. However, they were detained afterwards, which led up to demonstrators on the street outside of the radio station demanding their release whereupon they were fired upon by the State Security Police (AVH) and Soviet troops. After this impromptu councils took managed to take over control of Budapest from the Hungarian Working People's Party, disbanding the AVH, demanding political change and threatened to withdraw from the Warsaw Pact. From there things would eventually fall apart when the Soviet Military violently put down the rebellion on November 10 that same year.
What were the key features of the Hungarian uprising?
This even occurred in 1956. The Hungarian's were inspired by the death of Stalin; they believed desalinization and the "Thaw" had created a new atmosphere... What did they want ?? *Reforms * An end to soviet control in Hungary. * They hoped for more political freedom and also for more economic improvements. So...Demonstrations and Protests occurred, this resulted in Nagy becoming Prime Minister ( who was known as a modernizer.) When the soviets retreated from Budapest, it was hoped by Khrushchev that the situation would calm down. · Reforms were made, and the government in Hungary no longer had control over the Press and Radios. · Non-Communists were now allowed to participate in Government. · Nagy wanted to leave the Warsaw Pact. · He Promised Free Democratic Elections. However ! · Khrushchev was not happy. The soviets returned and crushed the revolt. 30,000 Hungarians died.200,000 fled to the West. · Nagy fled. Once he returned he was imprisoned and executed. · All of the reforms were reversed. · Communist Government was re-established in Hungary. But, this did not worsen relationships between the superpowers. This is because after the Korean War in 1950-3, the USA had learnt its lesson, and tried not to liberate countries as much. Also Khrushchev had been making talks about "Peaceful Co-existence". The Americans did not want to ruin this chance, and although they condemned what was happening in Hungary, they did nothing about it. "It cost 54,000 American lives and $67 billion in expenditures. This unsuccessful war caused Americans to reject the Democratic party in 1952 and to re-elect Eisenhower. The war also increased fear of communist aggression and prompted a hunt for Americans who might be blamed for the communist gains."

Maybe we should establish whether we're talking about Western or Eastern Armenian. But in Eastern Armenian I've literally never heard an Armenian say it in that order. They always say բարի գիշեր (Bari gisher) Don't say it with a "p" sound otherwise you're saying պարի which is the command form of dance. The literal translation of the above suggestion would be understood to an Armenian as:
Night, dance!
