How do you replace or change the headlights on a 2003 Hyundai Accent?

So I just spent about three hours browsing various internets trying to figure this out. After going through what I've been through, I want to write a guide for all you folks like me.

Things you will need: Replacement bulbs #3009, patience, a pair of thin gloves, maybe a needle-nosed plier.

I recommend doing the passenger side bulb first - this way you can see how it all pieces together, without the frigging battery getting in the way. Wear gloves so you minimize risk of touching the new bulb. Whatever you do, don't let your skin contact the new bulb. You can touch the metal parts around it, but don't touch the glass.

Now to the nitty gritty:

1) Remove the plug from the bulb. There are two little squeezy-tabs on the long ends of the plug, located where one would logically grasp the plug to remove it. Once depressed, these tabs will unlock the socket and allow you to pull the plug off of the bulb. For the driver's side, I used a pair of needle-nose pliers to depress the tabs, because I do not have tiny hands.

2) Remove the rubber gasket. This is pretty easy. Just kind of work it off.

3) Remove the bulb from the bulb housing. This is kind of tricky! There is a little paper clip type thing holding the bulb into place. On one side of the bulb, towards the bottom, you will see a little metal outcrop that is holding this clip into place. Depress the clip towards the front of the car and this clip should come out, and swing upwards. You can then remove the old bulb.

4) Very carefully put the new bulb into the housing and clip it down. Be sure to properly align the tabs on the bulb, and don't touch the glass part! Make sure the plug on the back of the bulb is aligned so that the only horizontal metal part is on top of the plug, not the bottom.

5) Replace the rubber gasket. This is also easy. Work it in there, and push the middle back in so that it is fitting snugly around the bulb, and you have easy access to the plug part. It should be fully visible.

6) Put that dang plug back on there. Don't worry about depressing the little push-tabs, it will snap on.

Done! Hope this helped.

It helped IMMENSELY! I just had to do this, and was clueless. I really like the info you can get on the web, especially when it comes from someone who actually knows what they are talking about. I had to do it on the driver's side, and it was exactly like you laid it out. THANKS!!!!!

What spark plugs are recommended for a 2002 Hyundai Accent and what is the gap on them?

My '02 Accent GL has the 1.6L DOHC engine. The recommended spark plugs, according to the owner's manual are: Champion RC10YC4 gap them at 0.039 to 0.043 inches NGK BKR5ES-11 or 1.0 to 1.1 mm I put new plugs in @ 30K & 60K miles as recommended. The 2nd set I put in were Champions. I had acceleration problems @ 75K and when visiting the dealer, I was told that the plugs were to blame and that I installed the incorrect ones. When I showed the tech the owner's manual, pointing out that the Champions were recommended, he just shrugged and said I shouldn't use Champions because their materials and workmanship have not advanced to meet the needs of newer vehicles. No answer as to why Hyundai recommends junk parts, but I put in some NGKs (which work well in all Asian cars, so the tech said) and have not had trouble with the plugs since.

How do you change the headlight on a 2002 Hyundai accent?

If you're replacing one bulb, always replace both. This ensures that the brightness of each is the same. Never touch a headlamp bulb or allow any debris to come in contact with the bulb. Never touch both contacts of a car battery at the same time. 1.) For the left headlight, you will want to remove the car battery before attempting to replace the headlight, because there is no room otherwise. You will need a socket wrench (14mm?) with ~9" extension to reach the front battery brace, and a 10mm wrench to unclamp the battery contacts. When those are unhooked, slide the battery forward 1" then lift up. 2.) Remove the plug from the back of the headlamp. It has three prongs, and may be very hard to pull. The plug has squeeze tabs on each side of the plug. These squeeze tabs are located on each side of the widest part of the plug. If you can't get it off, slide back the outer ring of the dust guard (rubber circle part) and skip to step 4. 3.) Remove the dust guard (rubber circle) from the plastic headlamp assembly. Slide back the outer edge first, then the rest will come off with a little twisting. 4.) Now you can see inside the back of the light. The lamp brace is a piece of stiff, bent metal wire secured by a screw on one side and a tab on the other. Push in on the wire where it meets the tab and pull up, so the brace swings out with the screw as a hinge. If you can't get the brace off the tab, just unscrew the hinge side, then remove the brace entirely. 5.) The burnt-out lamp can now be easily removed. Make a note of how the tabs of the edge of the lamp are situated, and then insert the new light. Replace the brace, with the angle of the brace pointing toward the light. 6.) Replace the dust guard. Push the outer edge onto the plastic assembly, then press in on the center, so the lamp contacts are clear of the rubber. 7.) Put some dielectric grease on each of the female contacts within the plug. Dielectric grease is available in small packets at your local auto parts store. Plug the plug back onto the light. 8.) Put the battery back in, making sure the rear tab is under the main battery brace, and the contacts are on the proper sides. Wrench in the front battery brace and clamp down the contacts.
