How can you make faux bricks for a kitchen backsplash?

From your local craft store, get as big a piece of craft foam as you can(it's kinda like mousepad material) and make yourself a brick design stencil out of the foam. The thickness of the foam will be the thickness of your "brick". Spray the back of your foam stencil with spray adhesive. Follow instructions on the can! When it's ready, stick your stencil to the wall, making sure you're level. Using a putty knife that's as wide as your brick is high, spread joint compound across each brick in your stencil, then pull off the stencil. You can mix latex paint or paint pigment into your joint compound to make it the color you want your bricks to be. Repeat until you're done! Make sure the wall was painted with the color you want your "mortar" to be. It should be completely dry in 24 hrs. It would be good to go back over your new backsplash with polyurethane or Minwax polycrylic to protect your project.

I was able to open it with a magnet door stopper but not with refrigerator magnets. This was emergency measure since I bought the product in the US, moved overseas and lost the magnetic key along the way. I think if you have super strong magnets, it will work.
