I can't answer it...But I do the same thing, as does my son. I too am asking why. It has to be some sort of sensory thing. I find that getting my fingertips wet will immediately help. Some apps require a certain version that you might not have. To know what the version needed for the app is look at the Requirements when you press on an app and go to its info page before you buy it and waste time.
