Does Iran has a coastline?

Fractal scientists tell us that it is impossible to measure the length of a shoreline. The closer you look at it, the longer it gets, as it's not a smooth line.

However, an answer less than 2440 kilometers along the Persian Gulf and Gulf of Oman and 740 kilometers along the Caspian sea would be quite unreasonable. IN English measure, that would be about 1980 miles.

How did the Persians defeat the Spartans in the battle of thermopylae?

At Thermopylae the Greeks held the only pass through the mountains and shore line,Persian King Xerxes thought, and after several attempts to clear the defending Greeks out and after suffering heavy casualties against the very tough Greek Phalanx he was perplexed on how to proceed next when a Greek informer told Xerxes about a path that went around the Greeks and came down on the other side of the narrow pass,of course he exploited it and eliminated Spartan King Leonidas, his personal body guard of 300 and his Greek allies to the man.Its not known how many Persians were killed at Thermopylae but its believed to be between 10,000 to as many as 20,000 including many of Xerxes' famous Immortals.

  2. They were conquered by the Arab Muslims who destroyed the Sassanid Persian Empire in the 600s C.E. and resulted in the territory becoming prominent in the Rashidun, Umayyad, and Abbassid Caliphates.
  3. The Persians were overrun in the 1200s C.E. by Hulegu Khan of the Mongol Empire who founded the Ilkhanate or Middle Eastern Khanate.

Why were people unhappy about society in Iran?

They are not allowed drink alcohol (if you are poor or middle class that is - it is a well-known fact that members of the regime and millionaire pro regime businessmen import and/or grow fine wines to drink), women are forced to wear a certain dress code (however, rich women do not have to - they only dress like this when photographed for the poor to maintain the image. They tend to go over the top to fake this and wear this black gear that is not even popular with poor or middle income Iranians), saying anything about the regime will get you in trouble, ethnic minorities and opposition are often jailed, killed or exiled, members of the regime who oppose policy often get impeached and/or jailed. Capital punishment is often given for minor offenses. Corruption is rife and the money is smuggled out of the country leaving most people poor.

Note: These are currently ways in which the Iranian government represses people, not just the past.

What is the Jewish problem with Iran?

Jews have no problem with Iran as a country, per se. Jews have a very positive view of the Iranian people and Persian culture and actively sympathize with their repression under the current Islamic Republic regime. Additionally, many Jews in important Israeli positions are ethnically Persian, such as former President Moshe Katsav and former Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz. Jews do have issues with Iran's political positions and beliefs.

1) Holocaust Denial: First and foremost, Jews almost unanimously are revulsed by the Iranian government's support of Holocaust Denial. Regardless of what foreign policy Iran chooses with regards to Israel, there is no excuse for the active the support to deny the deaths of not only 6 million Jews but 5 million non-Jews.

2) Anti-Zionism: The Iranian government has taken a persistent attitude that the State of Israel should not exist and will be wiped from the pages of history. (Although, Iranian government apologists are always keen to point out that Iran does not state that it will do the wiping.) Iran has numerous anti-Israel marches and has all-but-criminalized "advocating Zionism" within its borders. Since most Jews see the State of Israel as an extension of their identity, the Iranian government hatred of Israel angers them.

3) Support of Islamist Militant Groups: In addition to repeated advocating Anti-Zionism in both speeches and funding, Iran provides direct military and funding support to violent paramilitary/terrorist organizations which have as their primary goal the Destruction of the State of Israel. Such groups notoriously include: Hezbollah, Hamas, Islamic Jihad, and others. Since Iran is literally paying groups whose goal is (and do) kill Jews, Jews are angry about Iran's activities.

4) Oversight of Jewish Culture in Iran: Within Iran, the Iranian government restricts and supervises Jewish activities. There are express limits on where and when synagogues can be built, all Jewish Religious Schools are required to have Shiite Muslim principals who can set the curriculum, and Jewish politicians are not allowed to speak about Israel unless they tow the government line. The "Principal Issue" is the most intrusive because this prevents the Jewish community from asserting any unique views by compelling the children to adopt "Shiite-acceptable views". For example, because of this, most Jewish Schools do not teach about repression of Jews under the Safavid and Qajar Imperial Periods because this would implicate Shiite Muslims in the mistreatment and abuse of Jews.
