1. Make sure that your batteries are fresh; two are required and are sold at most drug stores. Energizer #CR2016 2. If you are replacing the batteries, take the time to clean the contact points with an alcohol swab. There are four under the rubber button cover and the battery contact makes five cleaning points
3. Get in the driver's seat and close the door.
4. Pull the headlight flasher stalk toward you and keep it in this position, the headlights will be on when you pull this stalk towards you.
5. Insert the key into the ignition and turn it to position one. Position one will not energize your dashboard
6. Release the headlight stalk and then pull it towards you four times, flashing the headlights each time; you should end this sequence with the headlight stalk in its normal released position and the headlights off
7. A beep will be heard and a small red light will show on the gear shift gate surround
8. Press the unlock button five times, each time you ought to hear a beep...count the beeps!
9. After the fifth beep programming is complete
10. Remove key, step out of car, close door and test
11. If you have more than one remote to program, alter step 8 in the following way:
2 remotes: press one remote unlock two times, the other remote unlock 3 times

3 remotes: press the first remote unlock two times, the second remote unlock two times, the last remote unlock once

4 remotes: press the first remote unlock once, the second remote unlock once, the third remote unlock once and the fourth remote unlock twice

The reason this works with multiple remotes is that the programming mode is only memorized when the unlock button is pushed a total of five times, no matter how many remotes you use.
5 remotes: press each remote just once

Order the new bulb from jaguar or online. part number LNC5180AA. Ensure you have the code for the radio. disconnect negative battery cable. wait ten minutes. remove veneer trim aroung instraments by pulling on areas between gauges. (held by clips should pop free) then remove wooden panel around vents and clock. pop free the wooden panel over the airbag.(this is why you disconnect battery) loosen and remove the four screws holding the vent assembly. loosen the deepset screws on the right side of the instrament cluster ( you will have to move the trip computer, just push up and pull out) free the vent assembly from the dash. Use finger clip to remove electrical connector. move the clips back to free the clock from the vent. separate the two halves of the clock by moving the clips back. remove bulb using small screwdriver and replace. reverse to reassemble

Engine fail safe appears when there is a hard fault code, usually tranmission problems. the computer reduces engine power to have the least amount of strain on the vehicle until you can get to the shop.

Unplug two sensors attached to where the hose going to where air filter is, unbolt 4x long screws around the throttle (keep an eye on the gasket between the engine and the throttle body).

There's two small hoses attached to the throttle, if you can't remove them off (really tight as) no need to worry because you can start spraying the Throttle Cleaner (leave it for a while) to the throttle, I suggest you get a box of tissue, before you start wiping the throttle (clothes not good because it will smudge the oil all over the inside throttle), spray a little to the tissue before wiping it, keep doing it until you see the inner body is light silver color.

Then you can start cleaning the butterfly inside with tissue sprayed with spray cleaner, use your thumb to hold the butterfly piece (not with any sharp tool) while your other hand/fingers cleaning it.

Before you put it all back, it's not a bad idea if you start cleaning the air filter box where your air filter seating (or replace the if it's old air filter), spray with an Electronic Spray Cleaner each and every sensors and the connectors you unplug.

The location would be in the owner's manual if it is still with the vehicle. If not, Jaguar is really good about catagorizing their fuse box locations with components. It will more than likely be in the trunk fuse box next to the battery.

Firstly, it would be a good idea to get a garage to read the engines computer for an error code which will indicate what the problem is. I believe that the light should reset after a number of complete engine cycles (start, warm up, normal running to stop) as long as the problem does not occur again. Not sure exactly how many but I seem to recall around 12? Just out of curiosity - did the light come on after decelerating for a while (i.e. down hill no throttle)?

I have read that it is the throttle body needs to be cleaned. I am just trying to see if this may be correct. It came on about 3 months ago and went off but now it is back on again.

Turn off engine. Decide which of the channel buttons you wish to program. Hold end of hand-held transmitter against the roof console just underneath lights. Use both hands, press hand-held transmitter button and selected channel button. Hold down both buttons; see light on console flash slowly, then rapidly. Might take up to a minute. Rapid light means it has been programmed successfully.

Lucas Oil makes a product that they say will allow you to use regular fuel. I believe the product is called Tune-up in a bottle. It should be on their web site. But you may want to contact Lucas Oil directly with this question.

Remove outer headlamp ring by lifting tab. Remove the bulbs. Be careful and pull the headlight straight out after removing the bulb. It is attached to four plastic tabs and requires a good tug. Push the new headlight back on. You'll probably have to re-aim the headlight.

I find it's easier to raise the hood,lLook behind the headlight assembly and remove the socket/bulb, then remove the bulb from the socket, replace and re-insert the socket/bulb. Be sure not to touch the bulb glass while doing this as it tends to shorten bulb life.

Hold the down button until the window stops moving. Continue holding it for about three seconds until you hear a click. Hold the up button until the window stops moving and continue holding it for another three seconds until you hear another click. That's it. You're done. Repeat for the other window if necessary.

The hard part and the part that takes the longest is just getting the 2 lines in the middle of tank disconnected. Access is under the car just above where the trans-axle on a normal car would be. You will need long small hands an arms to reach up and around to use a standard fuel line disconnector. Once the lines are off its pretty easy-just undo the straps, disconnect the big electrical connector to the right of middle,disconnect 2 tubes and pull it out. There are 3 tubes ontop of the ring that have to be pulled loose to pull the pump out after you knock loose the twist ring. Pull the vent out 1st(the 1 by itself) once its off you can pull the pump assembly out as a unit an slip the other 2 lines off at the same time. Replacing it once you have the tank out is just the removal of 1 screw that holds the pump down, disconnect the power connector and loosen the clamp on the output line and its out

If the car is not banging and grinding it could be a wiring electrical problem or a bad Solenoid which is also electrical, but more extensive repair. The transmission is most likely not junk, but expect to spend a good amount of money to get it fixed. I am having this problem in my 2000 XK8 coupe which has the same engine and transmission.

The Battery in in the Trunk (Boot) mounted next to the spare tire. It is rather large so you may need assistance in removing it.
