With two hands! Depending how long your reach is, you grasp hood on the edge in the middle with right hand and lead it down to about 10"-12" inches from contact and then let it gently fall, while left hand (palm down) firmly pushes down on drivers side edge (with rag under palm of course). Gently but firmly is the key. No grabbing left or right hood edge and slamming down from fully open position!

The most common reason for the engine light to come on, particularly when the car is running well, is a leaky gas cap. This throws a code "evaporation system leak." For me, however, the evaporation system leask was a hole in the charcoal canister that is part of the emissions system/vapor recovery system. This is a thousand dollar repair because it requires dropping the rear suspension. Ouch.

They are located high on the exhaust manifold but not accesible from the top of the engine. Had to shorten a wrench and a lot of hand manipulations with very small turns from underneath to replace them without taking the manifold off. But it can be done.

What do you mean by "valet mode"? If you mean the trunk release button won't work, there's a valet switch inside the glove compartment that activates and deactivates it. Just turn it off. OR

You use the black key in the trunk keyhole which is located in the xk8 emblem. The Keyhole is located between the x and k. That should take it of valet mode.

There are two batteries on a modern XJ8. One is in the trunk area.

I have just worked on my o/s/r door, and mine was locked shut ! so here it is.

1. remove the screw under the door handle, below the ashtray area, which holds the panel against the door.

2. remove the small plastic disc and then the screw holding the door release handle cover panel.

3. idealy you need a screwdriver with a 90 degree bend near the end, say 1", to put in between the door panel and door, then starting at the bottom of the panel, pull the panel out from the door, good sharp tug, it is held on with 6 or 8 plastic pins, once released you then move the panel upwards to lift it off the top door edge.

4. then release the wiring connectors from the speaker, elec window switch, and lower door light.

now you are in.........

The purpose of the "Valet Key" is to allow a parking attendant or any other person to operate the car, but not be able to access the trunk where presumably you would store your valuables. The tip of the Valet key is different from the Master Key. It is part of the security systems design. You can use the Valet key to have another master key cut. But as you are probably aware, most locksmiths lack the special machine or key blanks to help you. Jag dealers will charge you a fortune, check the internet I had mine cut by a shop in Australia and had them delivered in the US in 3 days for under $35

When the check engine light is activated the resricted performace message which is like a "limp home mode" to work with the fault the vehicle will restrict timing, trans operation and throttle body response

The trunk is locked and the engine power is reduced so the valet can't drag race your car, or take things you locked in your trunk.

It can mean a wide variety of things. In my case on a 2000 XK8 it meant that over time, vibration loosened the solder joint on one of the main two leads into the ABS pump on the ABS module. When I replaced the defective solder, the stability control worked again.

Use your remote to lock and unlock doors it should cancel valet

solenoid and starter are packaged together; passenger side just under the exhaust manifold

you dont use oil at all trust me, hook a shock cable up to your car and hook the other end on a stick of bread

Open the driver side door.

Turn the ignition switch to the 'auxiliary' position, then turn the ignition switch to the

'ON' position and back to the 'auxiliary' position four times. *This must be done fairly quickly. If you have done it correctly, you will hear a chime.

Turn the ignition switch to 'OFF' position.

Remove the key from the ignition.

To program the transmitter, press any key within ten seconds. **If it worked, you should hear another chime.

Close the door.

I just bought a 98 xj8 and the previous owner told me that he uses a heavier oil such as 15w40 or 20w50. If your still not sure, you can always call a Jaguar dealership and as for the service dept and ask them. They'll be happy to help. Good luck!

The ignition key has a transponder in it. Without the dealer programming the transponder, the key will not start the car. You can get a key made at your local Jaguar dealership for about $85 including the necessary programming. Some automotive locksmiths provide this service. I am an automotive locksmith and I cut and program the keys that you speak of.

Radio should just pull out but the retaining clips are very strong and sometimes will not release, if this is the case then do as follows. Remove the leather cover around the gearstick ( it pulls off) and you will see two seven mil nuts and two bolts retaining a cover holding the wood surround in place, remove them and lift the cover which will then allow you to lift and remove the wood surround. there is a screw either side of the radio surround which when undone will allow you to remove said radio( the gearshift must be in drive to allow clearence). all in all it takes about ten minutes.

From Jaguar. The problem with all Jaguars is the lighting pack so if you get one from a breaker, get the light pack and wiring too.

there is no dip stick, the system is sealed. look for leaks,if not the system is alright.
