remove the plastic cover over the ignition switch. remove the immobilizer ring which is over the ignition switch. secure a good key inside the ring with twist ties. set this aside under the cover and leave all of the wires hooked up. now use a standard key without a chip in it to start your vehicle.

To expound on this. What happens is resistance builds in the circuitry behind the switch and overheats the metallic elements inside the switch, causing the plastic in the switch to melt. The underlying problems that CAUSES the resistance may be several things, but the root of the problem is usually the blower motor going bad. This builds resistance inside the blower motor, which also builds in the circuit. Replacing the fanspeed switch will only mask the problem and burn out the new switch. The proper fix for this instance is the motor.

EDIT: I have researched this and found that it seems to be the resistor that causes the majority of these problems, rather than the blower motor. Do know, however, that either of these can cause this problem.

yes mate, you need a hydrolic press to get them out not easy, I tried to do it myself just wasted a whole saturday. this has to be done by a profesional with a press. I disagree. They don't have to be pressed out. I just finished replacing the rear wheel bearings in my 02 Kia Rio. The rings the bearings sit in can be pushed out with a flat head screwdriver and hammer. Clean out the grease and you will see three gaps in the hub where the screwdriver fits. Just take your time and go from one gap to the other.

On the 03 Rio there is a cable clutch. No fluid. To adjust it, just twist the nut above the tranny where the cable hooks. Once you see it, you will know what I'm refering to.
