In the synoptic gospels, the Last Supper was on the day of the Jewish Passover feast, so we can say that Jesus and the disciples were partaking of the Passover feast.

In John's Gospel, the crucifixion was on the day of preparation for the Passover, so John does not describe a Last Supper, saying just that on evening before, when their supper was ended, Jesus washed the feet of the apostles.

Was the Last Supper eaten in silence?

No, most likely the Last Supper was instituted in singing, praying, reading from the Old Testament, and talking.

The Last Supper was an extension of the celebration of the Jewish Passover. During the Passover meal, as it is still eaten today, there was a lot of activity: solemnity, but also joy and festivity. Jesus used the last elements of the Passover to show that the bread and the wine were representations of His body and blood shed at the cross.

Book of Numbers. 14

Thus shalt thou separate the Levites from among the children of Israel: and the Levites shall be mine. 15 And after that shall the Levites go in to do the service of the tabernacle of the congregation: and thou shalt cleanse them, and offer them for an offering.

Did Jesus reveal His identity to five disciples as He broke bread?

The Bible doesn't say He did.

Jesus had at other times revealed who He was to the disciples:

Matthew 16:15,16 He said to them, "But who do you say that I am?" Simon Peter answered and said, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God."

but still they did not really understand. This verse from John is during the Last Supper

John 14:9 Jesus said to him, "Have I been with you so long, and yet you have not known Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; so how can you say, 'Show us the Father'?

I think the disciples did not fully understand who Jesus was until after His ressurrection

What was the date of death of jesus?

All authorities agree it was between 29 and 33AD. The traditional date is 33AD, but more-up-to-date and biblically-impartial scholarship taking into account (i) the Passover dates (ii) that there were two sabbaths that week (not just 1) and (iii) Daniel's 70-weeks prophecy seem to put it at 32AD or 31AD, so take your pick:-

April 6th 32AD

(See 'The Precision of Prophecy' at http://www.khouse.org/articles/2004/552/ )

For 31AD:-

Go to the article "year of Jesus' Death" at

http://www.rusearching.com/nostradamus/nostradamusyearofdeath.htm

For 28th March 31AD:-

('The Dates of Jesus' Crucifixion.......based on Daniel's Prophecy of 70 'Weeks' ' at http://www.geocities.com/athens/parthenon/3021/ascension.html

[ this also includes detailed reasoning covering the possible years 30-36AD]

The choice comes down to personal preferences, but it really doesn't matter which year it was. If God had wanted us to know, then the Holy Spirit would have had it recorded for us - He hasn't, so it's unimportant. What is important are the consequences of Jesus Christ's atoning death for all, either one way or the other.

From the Urantia Papers (185, 187):

Jesus died April 7, A.D. 30, Friday afternoon:

(185:0.1) brought before Pilate, shortly after six o'clock.

(187:3.1) hung upon the cross, about half past nine o'clock.

(187:5.5) cried out, "It is finished!", just before three o'clock.

Why Christians partake in the Lord supper?

Catholic (and typically Christian) answer: The mass or Lord's Supper recapitulates the last supper, which took the form of a Passover Seder as it was celebrated in the days when the Temple still stood in Jerusalem.

Jewish answer: The Catholic answer is probably wrong. If you look at the text of the traditional Catholic Mass, it strongly resembles the text of the Amidah, a prayer said three times daily in the Jewish liturgy. It has no resemblance to any of the liturgy of the Seder, a ritual that we know has been fairly stable for most of the past 2000 years. The actual ritual of communion, with blessings over bread and wine that are then consumed, strongly resembles the Kiddush ritual conducted at the start of every Sabbath and festival meal (incuding the Passover Seder), where blessings are said before consuming wine and bread. We suspect that the form of the Amidah and Kiddush ritual was already in place in Jesus time and we suspect that the Jewish followers of Jesus retained this ritual structure and gradually added new explanations linking it to the last supper until the actual origins of these rituals was forgotten.
