How does a person with learning disabilities cope with identity and self esteem?
By finding something outside their disability they can center their identity on and further use to build their self-esteem. Once a person becomes more comfortable with their limitations they can seek the help they need to compensate for their disabilities.
The important thing to remember is that a learning disability is not a dead end. It will make life harder but any setback could be an opportunity in disguise. Growing up with several learning disabilities I have discovered that my many struggles produced a strong work ethic. I have always had to work twice as hard to get decent grades. Upon entering college I had already developed and implemented strong study skills and was use to putting in the hours and asking for help, while others struggled immensely. If you (or a child) have one or more learning disabilities remember that you can use your disability to develop strength, creativity, and maturity that will empower you to supersede seemingly impenetrable limitations.

Phonics alone does not help dyslexia.
Dyslexic readers have difficulty changed the written word into spoken word because they struggle with basic auditory processing skills. Before you learn phonics you need to master these basic skills like phonemic awareness and fluency. Phonics builds on top of these skills and you can not understand phonics or learn to read well without them.
There are a lot of programs that teach phonemic awareness and fluency before phonics. My favorite is Sound Reading Solutions which teaches these foundational building blocks and then moves on to cover more advanced skills like comprehension and phonics.
What if there was a cure for learning disabilities?
That would be great news for people in general, and would make it easier for everyone to learn. There would still be varied ability levels in different areas, because we all still would have strengths and weaknesses, but at least nothing would be in the way of everyone reaching their potential if they were willing to put in the effort.

absolutely, IQ tests are not reliable indicators of anything but ability to score high on IQ tests.

Is Developmental Dysphasia a learning disability?
Learning disabilities are common in children with Autism. A learning handicap affects one out of every 100 persons on average, but autism affects roughly 40 out of every 100 youngsters. This is a significant source of worry. The typical person's IQ is between 70 and 130. A learning disability may be diagnosed if an individual's IQ is less than 70. No, it's illegal. Educating people in the workplace and requiring sensitivity training may help alleviate or eliminate the possibility of mistreatment. If it persists despite these efforts, administrative and legal action are required.
