How do you apply a patch to a leather jacket or vest?
Here is another, easier way: Measure where you want the patch on the sleeve with the jacket on. Mark this with a white taylor's chalk, or blue on a white jacket ,so it's visible. Open the lining at the bottom back hem just enough to get your hand in. Slip your hand up between the lining and the leather in the area where you will put the patch. Then with a "small" sharp upholestry needle using a mylon thread in a clear color (light weight fishing line works well for this) and a thimble to push this through the leather, starting with the first stitch through the underside of the patch so the knot in the end of the thread is hidden under the patch but will hole the thread securely push the needle down through the leather to the hand between the leather and the lining and back up through the edge of the patch. Continue working the needle back and forth through the patch and the leather using the thimble to push the needle straight and making a satin stitch though it really doesn't need to be that close together on the stitches. One every 16th of and inch should be sufficient. When you get all the way around the patch and back to your starting point, slip the needle around the first stitch in a half-hitch (first part of a knot) and then back around in the 2nd half-hitch to complete the knot. Then slide the needle all the way under the patch between it and the leather pulling the thread through to the other side of the patch, pull the thread up with a bit of a pucker, so when you cut the thread it slips back under the patch with a long end.
I know this looks a bit complicated but it really isn't. Just make sure you don't catch the lining with the thread or the jacket or it won't hang right and will wear uncomfortably. When you've finished with the patch don't forget to restitch the jacket lining hem back where it belongs.

The best methord i have used is to use a mild oil to remove dirt and grease... and let the oil soak in... and then let it dry... once the oil on the outer surface is removed ... apply a clear coat of leather nourishing wax based polish (low viscous)... once dried... brush to shine... this is how you soften a leather watch band... note:- if the band is double layered leather... the oil might soften the glue that binds it together... before applying the wax based polish... use a mild coat of rubber based glue to adhere the surfaces...

How do you clean vomit off of a leather sofa?
I found a solution that cleaned 2 year old vomit from my leather couch, from a similar situation of a child being sick.
Buy foaming Saddle Soap from an equestrian store. This will clean the leather down to the source of the smell (in my case I had tried several remedies including Nature's Miracle, Febreeze, and other items to clean/mask the smell).
The Saddle Soap brand I used was Fiebings. Then I put A LOT of fresh unused baking soda on the leather and rubbed it in (don't use the stuff that has been sitting in your refrigerator). Vacuum up the excess. This will kill the smell about 50% and open any barrier that keeps the leather from getting wet.
After the leather dries for a day or two, make a water and baking soda "batter" and rub it on the leather. The solution will soak in, so you'll see the leather darken from being wet. Let this dry a bit and just use a vacuum brush to remove the dried baking soda.
After rubbing off any excess baking soda, let the leather dry, then treat the leather with appropriate leather conditioner for your couch. I used Lexol Conditioning Wipes which I also found at the equestrian store. I can't believe I finally have a couch that I don't have to hide or wrap in blankets.
This has changed the color a little of the leather, but I think it is better than having a couch that reeks or having to resort to buying a new one.
How do you fill cracked leather?
If the area is rough to the touch, or has burrs or snags that catch when moving your fingers across the area, then use 400 to 600 grit sand-paper to remove or reduce them. Then, using a palette knife, apply an even swipe of fill compound across the void, with the final goal being to fill the void to a level consistent with the surrounding leather. If the back side of the cut is accessible placing something solid and flat such as a CD case to press firmly against can help secure the edges together more easily. To completely fill the void, multiple swipes may be required. For best results, each swipe must be allowed to cure before applying subsequent fill compound.
You can either let the compound air-cure, which can take 10-30 minutes, depending on conditions and the amount of fill compound applied. Or, a hair-dryer on high can be used, but this tends to skin over the top of the fill compound, trapping moisture in the lower layers, and will represent as residual shrinkage after the repair is done, as the trapped moisture is slowly absorbed by the surrounding leather fibers.
The fastest and most reliable way is to position a lit 60-75 watt light bulb above the repair, at a height of about 3-4 inches. The bulb's radiant heat helps to evaporate the moisture quickly out of the fill compound without skinning over, or forcing it down into the lower layers. A bulb can cure a fairly deep swipe in 3-4 minutes. You can sand between swipes to eliminate burrs, and feather the edges of your swipes.
Dry sanding is preferable if there are no major ridges or burrs to remove. Dry sanding is used to remove grittiness. Wet-sanding is used to knock down high spots and remove ridges quickly. Do not over-saturate when wet-sanding. Lightly dampen the sandpaper with water, and blot, so as not to introduce too much moisture back into the filled area.
Alcohol wipes can be used to remove ridges, and feather the edges of the compound, as well. The solvent softens and reconstitutes the fill compound, helping to eliminate high spots or ridges as you rub across the problem areas.
Typically the next step is to apply the correct color to conceal the repaired area.

How do you shorten the hem of cuffed pants?
This a pain, but here's how you do it. First remove the cuff. If it's a turn up cuff, then release the stitches holding it in place. This includes the tacking at the seams, and the hem stitching. If it's a sewn on cuff, clip the stiches, and lay the cuff aside. Then measure the pants and cut them to length, reserving 1/2 inch for seam allowances. Reattach the cuff if it is sewn on. If you must make a new cuff from the material of the pants, leave two inches extra to the pants. Turn the cuffs under 1 1/2 inch, and hem. Then flip the cuff up and out over the length of the pants and tack the cuff at the seams. Iron and wear.
