Is the term soft butter leather a promotional term or a type of leather?

It is a promotional term for selling products. There is some very misleading information about leather and its care and you should be cautious about claims made from care product manufacturers. LAA What you really want to check is whether it is aniline treated full-grain leather. These high quality leathers are very soft and may be described as buttersoft (or 'butterskin' according to Remy's 'Skin Information Guide'). According to that clothes site, 'butterskin' is a term applied to high grade English lambskins with full aniline tannage. Roden Leathers refer to one of their quality full grain leathers as butter soft but use of the word butter independent of confirmation that the leather has been aniline treated is not a technical term and does not offer any quality guarantee. The term does not appear to be widely used. Aniline dyeing is reserved for high-quality full-grain leathers but there is more than one type of aniline dyeing - the three I am aware of are full, pull-up or semi. Full aniline leathers have no coating in order to keep maximum breathability but this means they are less protected from liquids than the other two finishes. Pigmented leathers are highly durable for furnishings etc.

Pigmented leather is highly durable but it needs an expert to verify whether the skin quality used was high quality full-grain or corrected grain. Watch out in particular for laminated, bonded or bicast leather - the last two are not leather by most definitions and laminated products may not fit the criteria for leather. The qualities of leather (pliability, ageing, durability, breatheability) and leather substitutes depend on the skins used and how they are processed, so affect their suitability for use in furnishing, clothing etc. If your sole concern is the appearance and you're not bothered by its longevity, you don't need to pay so much attention to these details.

Ink on leather?

Removing ink from leather is not a cleaning problem.

Most ink removal products will not work simply because of the length of time the ink has been on the leather. Ink is a dye and has re-coloured the leather (this is what it is meant to do)

The longer the ink has been on the leather the harder it is to remove because it soaks into the finish. Once it has soaked into the finish you have to use very strong products to remove it, which will also remove finish and pigment which then need replacing. If the ink is on a pigmented leather then the first thing you should try is an LTT Ink Stick. The fresher the ink the more chance you have of removing it. It is a good idea to have one in your house if you have pale leather and children!!!! Old ink will be harder to remove than new ink and may mean resorting to solvents which will also remove the finish. This is probably best left to the experts

If an ink stick doesn't work a solvent based remover will need to be used and it may also remove finish and pigment so is best left to the experts.

You should also be using LTT Leather Protect on your suite. This will act like a 'scotchgard' and will make any more mishaps easier to clean off.

You will see many people recommending household products to remove ink - this is not recommended as most simply will not work, some may appear to work but the damage they cause can make a much bigger problem which is then un-repairable (even by a technician) DO NOT USE THE FOLLOWING: * Hairspray - This is very risky as it can make the matter far worse by spreading the ink over a bigger area and can sometimes then be impossible to fix. * Nail Varnish remover/solvents will remove the finish on the leather even if you cannot tell it is doing so and this will then need replacing, and alcohol may do the same depending on the strength of the finish on the leather. * Baby wipes - just about the worst thing you can use on a leather as they break down the finish and will eventually ruin it. * Milk or Toothpaste - these are just silly ideas that will leave sticky residues on the surface which will help to break down the finish on your leather. * Silicones/furniture polish - should not be used on leather. They will form a coating on the surface of the leather which will not allow any moisture to get to the leather itself and will eventually break all the finish down and cause it to crack. * Hide food will not remove ink and will leave residues on the leather which will attract dirt and oils. * Most leather cleaners will not remove ink unless a very good leather protector has been used on a regular basis. * Magic Erasers - these damage the finish on the leather which will then need replacing As aniline style leathers are largely absorbent it means that the ink will have soaked straight into the leather itself. This makes it impossible to remove. No product will successfully remove the ink. DO NOT try ink removing products on aniline style leathers as most will leave a greasy residue which will then cause another problem. Because aniline style leathers are absorbent the ink will carry on moving through the leather and may become less obvious over time. Cleaning and protecting will also help to dissipate the ink.

How do you get ink out of cloth?

You need to spray some hairspray on the item of clothing. I know it sounds stupid but it dose work trust me! You may need to try one or two times. Once you have sprayed the hairspray on the stained part rub it in. Then get some kitchen roll or something like that and dab the stained part. When you wash the clothing, let it air dry so that you are certain that the stain is out.

What is the value of a Coach purse?

Where or how can you determine the value of some old 8x10 glossy photos of about 7 players from the 50's including Mantle and Robinson?

The most accurate way of coming up with a value is finding auctions where a signed photo of the ballplayer sold. Signatures will vary in price based on condition, the type of authenticity that accompanies the signature, the item signed, and how well the item displays the signature.Baseballs are the most common, and preferred by collectors because of it's connection to the game, low cost, availability and it displays the signature well. The signed baseball represents the average price for a signature, and by deducting or adding from this price for the Item signed accordingly will give you a good idea on value.

The lowest priced signed item would be for a "cut Signature." A cut signature is a signature on a piece of paper, or "cut" from a larger piece. Index cards are the next step up, and both sell at a fraction (about 10%-20%) the price of an autographed baseball. Autograph photos typically sell at about 40-60 percent the price of a baseball with bats, uniform Jersey's and equipment selling at a higher price due to the higher cost of the item, rarity and display.

In general if an autographed baseball is worth $100. the same autograph on a 8x10 photo $50. a cut signature $20. on a bat $150. The percentage of the price could also vary based on the popularity of the player, and how sought after the signature is. A Mickey Mantle single signed baseball is worth about $400.-$600. A Mickey Mantle signed 8 x 10 photo is worth about $150.-$300. If you use the formula above you should have a general idea of the value of your 8 x 10 photos. See Related links below for prices on single signed baseballs.
