Locks and latches are parts of a door. While the latch ensures that the door stays in a closed position to prevent it from opening, lock prevents the door from being opened without a matching key.

How do you open broken crafter bonnet catch?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

It will cost you a few hunderd quid to get this sorted by renault... or get some handy person to get the bonnet open, and using a cable tie connected to the passenger side bonnet release, connect said cable tie, and let the end poke out from the bonnet. This then becomes your new bonnet release. Any eagle eyed person with the knowledge will be able to open your bonnet from the outside. So do be wary of this solution. But it only costs a few pence for a cable tie vs a few hunderd quid from reno.

How do you open a 3 digit Buffalo combo padlock that you can't remember the combo to and reset the lock combo?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Hold down the silver button on the side. Scroll through the far right wheel until you hear a click. Do the same for the middle and left wheels. Hope it helped!

(Worked for me)

Update: Use your thumb to hold down the silver button on the side. With your thumb, you can feel the button "fall" or "bump" into place as you turn the wheel to the correct digit. This usually works really well on the 3rd digit. This at least narrows it down to 100 possible combinations (rather than the original 1,000). Or, knowing the last digit may help jog your memory to remember the combination you set in the first place.

How do you fix the door hinges?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

you can use either "bondo" or "Minwax Wood Filler" to patch the wood.Dont mix more that you can use in 5-10 min.. Use a good stiff putty knife, let set ,sand, then prime and paint. This will hold up in Minnesota winters/summers(not to mention bondo is used on cars and boats). Hope this will work for you.

This is a patch job that will probably look nice if done correctly. This will work, however the problem of a weak door frame still remains. A kick or shove on the door will break the door frame again. You need to strengthen the door frame with a door frame reinforcement product. There are several out there but I've used StrikeMaster II on my home. 20 minute installation.

Depending on the size of the ripped holes if they are not too bad you might be able to just use thicker screws to place into the mounting brace of the reteractor. --- If that won't work

FIRST---Draw a a line approximately 2 inches above and 2 inches below the retractors mount brace-- you don't need a measureing tape for this you can do this by eyeball and mark 2 inches above and 2 inches below the mounting brace of the retractor. Measure the height from the threshold to the center within this 4 inch gap because you don't want to place any screws or nails in this area that will block your retractor mounting screws from entering-- mark your upper and lower line marks outside the door frame on the wall-- now you will have a marker that tells you where you do not want any screws or nails as you replace your fresh piece of wood.

I would unscrew the entire screen door frame- set it aside and using a Fein Saw -- I would measure 12 inches past the gouged hole towsard the top of the door frame & 12 inches past the hole toward the bottom of the door frame and I would cut out that 24 inch piece of wood and replace it with a piece of fresh wood.-- Once I have replaced the piece of wood I can replace the door frame and the door and the retractor and there would be no wasted time with fillers and weak area possibillities. If I have the Fein saw handy this job would take me about 1 hour to complete and even less if I just use oversized screws in the retractor mounting bracket that goes attached to the door jamb.

Hello,

You should also be sure that you install a chain to prevent this from happening again.

How do you get a car door open when it is jammed shut?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Has the door been hit? If so, a body shop would be the first place to try. If not, roll the window down and spray penetrating oil, like WD40, into the latch area of the door (this is about at the vertical middle of the door, straight down from the outside handle). Let it work in for a day or so, then try to work the handle from both inside and out, and the lock buttons as well. This will free it up in most cases. If not, the latch may be broken.

Sometimes, trying to open a locked cardoor with the wrong tool (such as a Slim Jim) can break the linkage off the handle or the lock cylinder.

If not successful, take the car to a locksmith.

How do you pick a pad lock?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

You don't. By definition a combination lock has no key, and thus there is nothing to "pick."

Picking a lock refers to mimicking the role of a key in a lock. A combination lock has no key, and thus cannot be "picked."

How to fix the lock of a Peugeot 205?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

If the problem is that the inside door slider is stuck in the down position then it's probably that the rocker mechanism attached to the outside handle (just behind the slider) is rusty and the rocker won't drop when the outside handle is lifted and released. Remove the door trim: Torx screws hold on the armrest and door pocket and the other plastic parts just pull off; and prise off the trim, getting your fingers close to each of the plastic poppers. Spray penetrating oil into the top corner of the door and work the rocker free.

How do you reset a master lock?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Well, it depends on what model it is. But this is something I found on the internet.

Models #175, 176, 177 and 178:

  • Open lock with the factory set or previously set combination. The lock must be set to the current combination, or you cannot reset it. Note: the shackle must be in the open position to reset the combination.
  • Insert reset tool (enclosed in package) in hole on side of lock.
  • Push reset tool in and turn 90 degrees (in either direction). Reset tool automatically stays in this position.
  • Set wheels to desired combination.
  • Turn and remove reset tool. Lock is now set to new combination.
  • Record your new combination in a safe place.

How can you get combination for Brinks safe model?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

To open a Brinks lock you first have to set the lock on zero. Next you turn it clockwise four complete turns, then do it once more stopping on the first number of the combination. Then turn the dial counter clockwise for two turns, do it once more and stop on the second number, turn the dial clockwise twice stopping on the third number of the combination, finally turn counter clockwise to the fourth number. The lock should then open.

How do you Fix a broken lock on a house door?

User Avatar

Also don't forget the all important - 3"screw in the top hinge trick. I've actually made a decent amount of money and fame just taking a 3" woodscrew and sucking up the top hinge so the door doesn't get stuck and it won't rub the strike (or jamb) anymore. Most people think I am simply amazing and call me McGiver (sp?)

There are 3 or 4 screws in each door hinge. remove the short screws closest to the center of the wall (the outer two are just lined up with the edge of the 1/2 drywall, so it won't do any good to screw the 3" screws in there - they can't bite into drywall...) put the 3" screw in the holes and drive it into the stud. You need to use a lot of pressure when you are driving the screw home, because you are trying to move the whole jamb, hinge and door sideways approx 1/8". Note: usually there is a 1/4" space between the door jamb and the stud (rough opening), if the door was installed with the hinge side directly against a stud or there are shims directy behind the top hinge - you are screwed, the installer of the door needs to be shot at (with the nail gun at a range of approx 50'-100' while wearing safety glasses of course - him not you..). He's a framer anyway and can't do finish carpentry work - he is not capable of doing a proper job of it and should stick with what he knows...your only option at that point would be to hire a finish/interior trim carpener to creativley solve the issue. Wow! I'm out of breath on that one...(I've got a lot of framing buddies by the way, I don't hate them nor envy them. In fact I'm a framer and can run circles around them framing because I'm a finish carpenter, Ha!)

Chris

P.S all this was to avoid planing and repainting the edge of your door - I'm trying to save you money and money make the...whatever

Late...

it and turn the handle but it's still stuck? If you can then it's probably hung up on the strike plate. Insert a flat bladed screwdriver between the door and the frame just above the latch in the door. This should spread the frame just enough to get the door open. If this works, just set the strike plate a little deeper into the frame.

If you can't unlock the handle, remove the knobs and you can open it with a flat bladed screwdriver where the handle goes through the barrel of the lock.

How do you reset a Bell bike lock combination?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

I had the same problem. Shame on Bell for not posting the instructions readily on line. You must hold the red button on the inside of the mechanism down, while resetting the combination.

I wanted to post to improve upon this answer. I just got off the phone with Bell customer service. Here is what you do: Open lock Turn end that has the numbers on it (where you set the combo) towards you so that the open part where the other side slides in is facing you. Notice there is a red "tab" at the top of the opening. Press that red "tab" IN and DOWN (Note: It will be VERY hard to do this. You have to push IN very very hard, then while holding it in, slide it DOWN until you hear a click) Now set the combo to whatever you want it to be. (Write it down if you think you may forget!)

Look once again at the end of the combo side of the lock so you are looking at the opening where the other side slides in. There is a black tab on the bottom of the opening. Press that tab UP until it clicks. Now you should be able to slide the other end of the lock in and "locK' the lock and unlock it using your new combo.
