Upgrading a computers operating system will not touch the personal data on the computer. It is always advisable to keep a back up of your data in case of disk failure.

Hibernate (also known ambiguously as sleep mode) is a feature seen in many operating systems where the contents of RAM is written to non-volatile storage, such as the hard disk (as either a file or on a separate partition) before powering off the system. Later the system can be restored to the state it was in when hibernation was invoked, so that programs can continue executing as if nothing happened. Hibernating and restoring from hibernate is also generally faster than a hard reboot and, if necessary, can be done without user interaction (unlike shutting down, which often requires the user to specify if open documents should be saved).

To use hibernation the hard disk needs to have at least as much free space as there is RAM on the system.

Hibernation is often used on laptops and can generally be set to happen automatically on a low battery alarm. Early implementations of hibernation did use the BIOS but on modern systems the functionality is usually handled by the operating system. Hibernation is defined as sleeping mode S4 in the ACPI specification.

Turn off. That way, no power at all is being used. Hibernate saves your desktop and turns off into a low-power state.

System I goes back to 1986. It ran on PowerPC chips. To run programs from that era you need a PowerPC emulator. Applications from that era ran on systems from I to 9. Most games that would run on their current era OS might not work on other era OSs. So an application that was to run on system 7, would probably not run on system 1, but applications for system 5 might run on system 7. So, to emulate System 1, a specific set of variables must be matched which link the exact application to the systems it would run on. This is not a simple task.

Better questions might be "How can system ### be emulated by system ###," or "Which emulator do I need to run application XYZ on OSX 10.8.2?"

Search the web for emulators that meet your goals. As OSX improves, it outruns emulators designed for earlier systems. For very old emulators of System 1, there is only a tiny user base of hobbyists. In all probability, these emulators won't run on the latest OSX versions.

You have to follow Forge's instructions AND the mod's your using instructions to make sure it's done right. Some mods have you do it different so you have to read their instructions. Basically making sure your using a forge compatible mod helps.

Steve Jobs started NeXT when he left Apple in 1985. If folders are moving on the Desktop it is probably because the View settings are set to keep them ordered in a particular way. For example if they are ordered by Date Created (or Modified) then when you add a new file or folder to the desktop the others will be moved to make way for it. This can be changed from the Finder's View menu Show View Options.

Similarly in an individual Finder window right click on some blank space and select the Arrange By option to specify how you want your files and folders ordered.
