What is the manufacturing date of a Sweet 20 Browning shotgun with 'oz' above the serial 44587?
The A-5 you are referring to is a Light 20. The "Z" denotes Light 20 Gauge (and you can look on the non-bolt side of the receiver and it will be written there). The 0 means it was made in 1960. Your shotgun should have a gold trigger and a round pistol grip. At the top of the magazine cap above the forend you should have 2 rings around it. The factory light 20 A-5 did not come with a pad, but with a butt plate with FN marked on it. If you have questions please call me at Browning Collector There is no "Sweet 20". Go to the Browning website to determine what model you have and determine the date.

How much money does a biomedical engineer make starting out?
Persoanlly, I'm an electrician, but ironically an ex girlfriend and two life long friends entered the field you've asked about and this is what they've told me. The starting salary range for an entry-level position is about $27000 - $32500. You must also take into consideration the area of the country/world in which you would be applying for said job. The cost of living factor of that area and the size/history of the company you were applying to may also very well change the salary level to fluxuate accordingly. Cheers, hope I was SOME help.

What year was J Stevens Arms Co in Chicopee Falls Mass manufacturing shotguns?
Although the company dates back to 1864, the name "J Stevens Arms Co" was not used until after the company was bought by Savage Arms in 1920. In the mid 1940s, the name was shortened to "Stevens".
There should be a model number somewhere, probably on the right side of the receiver, but regardless of the model, it is going to be a solidly-built gun with no collector interest. Yours was made sometime between 1920 and 1950. If an experienced gunsmith checks it over and approves, it should still be a useable firearm and worth between $150 and $250, depending on condition.
Stevens Visible Loader rifles in good condition are selling in the $150-$200 range. Truly excellent examples will bring more. sales@countrygunsmith.net
Under $100. sales@countrygunsmith.net
Are 9x21mm and 9x19mm cartridges interchangeable?
Browning turned over the patent in 1940-1946.Your ser#a17xxx is most likely made by Remington. The Remington called it a Model 11.Serial #'s that include a letter states this...A=16ga,B=12ga,C=20ga.It's most likely your gun was manufactured in the W.W.2 era.If it looks like "Old Hump back" but has no indication of the words Browning on it ...It's a Remington. Remington shotguns from that era usually stated "United Metalic Cartrige Company". To be more clear, you have an "American Browning" made by Remington under contract to Browning. These guns were contracted by Browning to keep in business while FN in Belgium was under occupation by the Germans during WWII. Although they were made on the same equipment that Remington made the model 11, they are not considered Remingtons. The Remington plant included the magazine cutoff by the insistance of Browning, a feature that Remington model 11's never had. There was great resistance by Remington Management and workers to make these guns for Browning, but because of the relationship that John Browning and the Browning family had with Remington in the earlier part of the Century, the Remington Board agreed to do this favor for Browning. American Brownings were made from 1940 to 1949. Your serial number "A" stands for 16ga and it was actually in the 12,000 block of guns made. Under request of Browning the serial numbers started with 5000 for each guage. At the end of 1946, Remington had made a total of 10,783 16 guage guns and a total of another 3017 guns in 1947. Your gun was made in 1947.

Was there a Winchester Model 80 rifle possibly a prototype for the Model 88?
I have a Winchester Model 80 - 22 short rifle, but I am unable to find any info on it. It is pump action, has a hammer, and a hex barrel. The serial # is 554XXX.
---- Two things to clarify here -
The above reference to a Model 80 pump rifle is likely the result of an illegible stamp for a Winchester Model 90. I have seen a number of guns within this model described as a Model 80.
As for the Model 80 and a relationship to the Model 88, Winchester did develop a prototype bolt-action rifle chambered for .30-80 caliber. Winchester quickly renamed the cartridge to the .308 WCF. Other than the cartridge, there is no relationship to the Model 88.

The J. Stevens Arms Company was a prominent firearms manufacturer in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The Springfield double barrel shotgun with a hammer was likely produced by J. Stevens Arms Company in Chicopee Falls, Massachusetts. The 16 gauge shotgun was a popular choice for hunting and sport shooting during that time period. The specific history of this particular shotgun would require further research into the serial number and production records of J. Stevens Arms Company.
When was the Iver Johnson Model 2-X manufactured?
owning one of these mkaes this an easy answer. these were made between 1932 and 1955. this is a great 22 short rifle. very accurate. also has the neat safety lock feature on it.
The Browning .22 Auto you have is fairly collectable. All depends on originality and condition. Also, the gun was offered in several different grades from standard (blue finish with light engraving) to heavily engraved with coin finish receiver and exhibition quality wood. Would need to see pictures of the gun to correctly estimate value. As for the shooting contest trophy thing, that could be good or bad. If the gun was some sort of special presentation award from a nationally recognized organization (with provenance) it can help. If it is trophy-shop engraved "TO BOB, WINNER OF MOOSE LODGE 1403 TURKEY SHOOT" then it is wrecked. sales@countrygunsmith.net
