Is there another ferry serv ice from Honolulu to maui as the fast Hawaii ferry has been canceled through some court can you help me as I book to go to maui on May to 4th and return to Honolulu on May 8th 09

The actual time would depend on head winds and the number of stops your selected airline would have along the way. Actual air time would be about 5 hours across the continental U.S., and about another 5 hours from the west coast to Maui. Typically you will be bucking a head wind flying west, which could easily add another hour. So you could figure on 10-11 hours typical air time, and then you would have to add about 1-2 hours for any stop or change of planes. For example if you landed and changed planes once your total airplane transit time could be around 13 hours from when you depart the airport. If you add 3 hours to get to the airport from your home before departure, and 1 hour to get to the place you are staying from the airport, your total elapsed time from leaving your house till you arrive at your condo or hotel would be about 17 hours.

Yes! Maui if very awesome. Theres a lot to do like go on the Road to Hana which is a very long road that stretches throughout fantastic sites and waterfalls! You can drive up the dormant volcano haleakala and see the rarest goose in the world and see the plant that only grows up in haleakala which is the silver sword. There is a lot more to do im just giving some suggestions :)

The main airport in Kahalui is where flights from the mainland come in and handles the largest aircraft like 747s, 757s and Airbuses and serves the entire island. Unfortunately, getting around Maui as an island can take quite some time because there are no "direct" routes. It can be another hour to Kapalua on the NW end, and 3 hours to Hana on the east end. So two smaller airports in those locations help out and only take smaller aircraft.

The airport at Kahului (OGG) is the only major airport on Maui. The airports on the West side and in Hana are for smaller local short haul aircraft only.

This is a somewhat "trick" question. Since all the Hawaiian islands were formed through volcanic activity, theoretically all Hawaiian residents live next to (or ON) a volcano. But if you mean active, the only active volcanos are on the Big Island (Hawaii itself) and the island's population was around 175,000 in 2008.
