Menstruation

Menstruation is the routine discharge, or release, of blood and mucosal tissue from the uterus. This process occurs about once a month from the time a female reaches puberty until menopause. During pregnancy, the monthly menstrual cycle is absent while the womb nourishes the growing fetus.

Could you be pregnant if you haven't had a period in almost three months?

It's possible. If you normally have very regular periods, and missing a period three months straight is very out of the ordinary for you, I'd go and get a test. But lots of women have really irregular cycles, especially if you are very athletic or very thin, or if you've recently changed your eating habits. I have a friend who is a dancer that only gets her period once or twice a year, for example. Assuming you have had sex then yes. But a medical problem can also cause this problem. Have yourself checked out by a doctor. yes

When you are on your period how do you know when you are going to come back on?

Your Period Comes On Every 28 Days And Goes Off A Week Later. If You Had Your Period Once But It Never Came Back on after 28 Days Do Not Panic. It's Either your pregnant or if you didnt have any SEX AT ALL AND YOUR STILL A VIRGIN then it's because you dont have anymore fetilized eggs.there is a possiblity that a girls period can go off and never come back on up to 1-2 years.you should also keep track of when your period will go off and on.if not then it will catch you by suprise.if you loose count go to your local store and buy pads ( i perfer "Always") and panti liners.you should buy panti liners so when you loose count if your period comes on unexpectedly the panti liner will catch all the blood that came out so your pintys wont be messy.PLEASE KEEP TRACK OFF TIME. What does it mean when you put the tampon in you stop bleeding but take it out you bleed?

Tampons cannot cause your period to stop, menstruation is shedding of the uterine lining and controlled by hormones so nothing in your vagina can impact on menstruation in that way. Your flow is light or not consistent, the fact you're using tampons has no relationship to that at all.

Would I be able to feel if I had a tampon stuck inside me?

Yes, you would be able to feel if there was a tampon still within your vagina. If you suspect you may still have a tampon in place clean your hands and insert fingers vaginally to feel around the vaginal canal to check - your vaginal canal isn't that long so you should be able to reach easily, but if you do struggle try to squat and push down as if you were passing a bowel movement. If you can't tell if there is a tampon there then you should tell someone to ask for help or see your doctor.

What are the normal ages for when you start your period?

The usual ages for a girl to start her period is about 11-17 however some people are early and others are late so it really depends on you.

Is it normal to have a dark red discharge after a lost tampon has been removed and antibiotics are started?

The dark red discharge may be blood left behind by the tampon which is now being allowed to flush out of your vagina. If you're taking antibiotics you should be fine, although you are at risk of developing a yeast infection when taking antibiotics which may effect discharge. If concerned then see your doctor again, it's a good idea to do this after the antibiotics too to ensure everything is okay.

Should girls exercise when they have their period?

I had My period then 2 weeks later I've noticed spotting which stoped then 3 days later i have more spotting.?

It is most likely that this is ovulation bleeding which generally occurs 2 weeks after period ended. However, if there is a chance that you could be pregnant, take a test if you miss your period

Can a water infection delay period?

Illness in general, is one of many things that will make a period erratic, along with stress, diet, etc. It is a delicate balance, easily disrupted.

What happens if you go swimming without a tampon and your period never starts again?

If you're menstruating you need to use one of the following internal menstrual products if you want to go swimming;

  • Tampons
  • Soft tampons
  • Menstrual sponges
  • Diaphragms
  • Softcups
  • Menstrual cups
If you were to wear nothing then blood and uterine tissue would leak into the pool, light flow may be diluted in the water so go unnoticed but heavier flow and urerine tissue would be noticed (especially when you get out the pool).

Can you take Utovlan once you've already started your period to delay it?

no, once you've started it will only slow the bleeding down and make the flow not as heavy. if you take it continually it will stop but not advised .

Does it hurt when you pee and have period?

No, it should never hurt when you pee. Menstruation and urination are two very different bodily functions which are not connected, if you are experiencing pain during urination it mays suggest that you have a urinary tract infection or a yeast infection which is causing damage to the vulva (when urine hits the damaged tissue this can cause pain). If you're using commercial menstrual pads such as Always or Kotex these can increase risk of urinary tract infections and yeast infections - it's best to use organic cotton pads like Natracare or cloth pads like Lunapads instead. If the pain continues or gets worse then talk to your doctor.

Can you conceive immediately after menstruation?

Menstrual cycle refers to your entire reproductive cycle, so you would always conceive during your menstrual cycle. If you're asking if you can conceive the first day after menstruation then the answer is yes, there may be an egg present that early in your menstrual cycle.

What phase of the menstrual cycle occures at approximately between days 15 and 28?

The follicular phase.

During this phase the follicules in the ovary mature ready to release a mature egg during ovulation, it's also during this phase that the uterus lining plumps-up to ready itself for potential implantation during pregnancy. Towards the end of the follicular phase (a week before ovulation) is also when you produce fertile cervical mucus which helps the sperm survive in the vagina and climb up through the cervix to go on to meet the egg.

What happens if you skip your last sugar pill and instead start a new pack of birth control?

Yes, this is a way women have been avoiding having periods at inconvenient times for several years (during vacation, honeymoon, holidays) and was the reason drug companies started marketing pills intended to stop monthly period all together - or having short quarterly periods.

There is no medical reason for women to have a monthly period and in fact the bleeding during the week you take placebo pills is not a period at all - it is withdrawal bleeding caused by hormonal drop when you stop taking active pills.

When does the menstrual cycle for girls begin?

The average age of menarche (first period) is 13 years old, but everyone is different so everyone develops differently and at different times. Anything between ages 10-16 is perfectly normal, even outself those ages it doesn't mean that there is anything wrong or abnormal.

Are there waterproof pads for swimming?

No, a pad can't be worn during swimming.

A menstrual pad is an external product that works by absorbing menstrual flow as it leaves the vagina, in water menstrual flow could bypass the pad and the pad would be saturated with water so unable to absorb menstrual flow. When saturated pads would look bulky, and disposable pads could also come unstuck.

To swim during menstruation use internal products;

  • Tampons
  • Soft tampons
  • Sponges
  • Softcups
  • Menstrual cups
  • Diaphragms

Menstrual cups are the best option as they're safer than tampons so can be worn for up to 12 hours without health risks, and unlike tampons are safe to use before your period is due or during light flow so more convenient. Menstrual cups are also a good option as they don't increase cramps as tampons can, don't absorb water, nothing shows externally, and don't leak like other options.

Can sex delay period?

Only if you've gotten pregnant. The only thing that controls your period is ovulation (which produces hormones) or birth control that 'mimics' hormones.
