Why does your Mercury Monterey have a low beeping noise when put into gear?

I had this problem and it was the chimes of the rear hatch not stopping but just going to a low volume when the hatch closed. The chimes is suposted to just 3 ring times when the hatch starts to close.

How do you change the transmission fluid in a 1953 Mercury Monterey 329 flathead engine?

Most Mercury Montereys must be drained (transmission) by removing the big inverted nut that holds the filler tube in place. This is the way mine works. I have heard that some had a drain plug, but have never seen one. I have also seen suggestions that the best way was to remove the pan, but these were only guesses in the blind because you can't remove the pan without removing the dipstick tube in any case.

PS: This all assumes that you have an automatic trans. Also, unless you or someone else has swapped engines, the 53 Merc flathead eng was 255 cu.in. The ford flatheads of that era had a 239 in. eng. so maybe you got the numbers inverted???????
LOL.

How do you replace high mount brake light in a mercury monterey?

Remove the outside Wiper Blade ( nut under cover & pry loose ). Then open rear hatch. Take screws out of pull handle & bottom corner of panel, then pry bottom cover loose from vehicle, being careful about pulling wire from auto open button.

There will be 4 bolts holding the wiper assembly & brake light assembly. Remove these after unplugging the brake light & wiper motor.

Pull assembly away from glass, then pull red lens away to access the bulb.

It is time comsuming but not TOO tough. Just make sure to remember how everything came off to re-assemble.

How do you remove brake calipers on 2004 mercury montery?

To remove the brake calipers on a 2004 Mercury Monterey, start by safely lifting the vehicle and removing the wheel. Next, locate the caliper bolts on the back of the caliper and use a socket wrench to remove them. Once the bolts are removed, carefully slide the caliper off the brake rotor, and support it to avoid straining the brake line. Finally, if necessary, disconnect the brake line from the caliper for complete removal.

Where is the MAF - mass airflow - located on Freestar - Monterey?

It is located in the air intake duct work, to the left of the air filter. Look for 2 wires leading to the sensor unit from the outside to pinpoint it's exact location in the housing/duct.

That's where you would spray an electronic cleaner* to try an eliminate a check engine code reporting a MAF sensor problem.

* Do NOT use plain old carb cleaner or the like - ask at the parts store for the right kind of cleaner to use in order to avoid damaging this very expensive sensor.

The mass air flow sensor is inside the air intake housing - to the left of where the air filter is located.
