It depends on the type of drug test you are referring too. Methadone is a purely synthetic Opioid which means that it differs muscularly from most other opioids. Structurally both methadone and propoxyphene are in the diphenylheptane class where as the naturally occurring opiates such as morphine or the semi-synthetic opiates (that can be derived from thebaine) such as oxycodone are characterized by the phenanthrene class. Now, usually if this if for a work situation then you will be sent to a physician; so depending on what the purpose of this test is, you can ask the physician what they are testing for and even ask for the complete list of drugs that are being examined. Now, if you are receiving methadone as a palliative care patient from an M.D./D.O. or are part of a federally mandated NTP and you know that methadone if being tested for you can disclose that you are being prescribed methadone and you are then protected under the A.D.A. (Americans with Disabilities Act) as opioid dependence disorder is a DSM-IV-TR disorder and if in a Federally mandated NTP the modifier of (in remission/receiving agonist treatment) can be added. If you are receiving it for pain then you can most probably qualify under a different component of the A.D.A. Unfortunately the stigma that currently exists among the general population (even among some physicians) predominantly because of lack of education of methadone pharmacology, individuals are hesitant to reveal to their employer that they are receiving replacement therapy as treatment for their brain disease.

So in short the answer would be sometimes yes and sometimes no. But if you are legitimately receiving methadone you should be protected by the A.D.A.

actually, elderly patients are a precaution in giving all kinds of medicine because they tend to react more to them in smaller dosages compared to an adult. in addition, the side effects produced by these drugs in elderly people are more pronounced because they are not metabolized that fast in their bodies because of the aging process they undergo. due to this, we can also say that drug toxicity is more likely for them. in connection to morphine, it is usually administered in a lower dose because of its depressive effects on respiration and consciousness.

You should wait until you are experiencing full withdrawals. I would recommend waiting at least 36 hours and 48 hours if you can stand it. If you wait 48 hours you will definitely not get sick but I it is risky before that.

Yes! Methadone is by far one of the strongest orally ingested opiates available. In addition to its strength as an analgesic, there are many medications that, when combined with methadone, greatly increase the risk of death (including but not limited to: benzodiazepines, valium, SSRIs such as Prozac and Zoloft, alcohol, etc). Methadone also suppresses the respiratory system (slows your breathing) and this effect lasts much longer than the analgesiac effect. In other words, a user can lose the effect or high, enter withdrawals, yet still have their breathing slowed down - when additional methadone is taken, death can result, especially among users of an uncertain tolerance.

Finally, unlike heroin, the withdrawals from methadone alone are sufficient to kill an otherwise healthy human being.

it will be very hard for you to get of methadone just like that. so if you are planing to get off. ask them to lower your dose. if you get off you will get extremely sick. I have seen my own mother suffer doing that, you know just get of of the methadone.so that is just what you should do.

Methadone and Morphine will show up different on a urine test. Morphine will show up as an opiate and Methadone will only show up as methadone cause it requires a specific test.

In maintenance programs, the addict is given measured doses of a less-intoxicating drug that will allow him or her to function better - take care of business, hold down a job, etc.

While this form of treatment, using Methadone, is popular due to government programs, most addiction professionals consider it unacceptable, as it does nothing to help the person recover from the addiction. The methadone, itself an addictive drug, simply keeps the brain accustomed to the presence of drugs, and does nothing to remove either the need for them or the craving. Put simply, the addict remains an addict - still dependent on drugs in order to function. Combine, with the foregoing, the fact that it is quite possible to get high on Methadone itself, or use it to maintain in between bouts of using other opiates, and you can see that it is not all that it's cracked up to be by the folks with vested economic and bureaucratic interest in its continued use.

Methadone detox is likewise undesirable. At best, an opiate addict has an uncomfortable time in detox. Methadone itself has a longer and more difficult detox than heroin and most other opiates. That means tapering someone off on Methadone will take longer and, if the detox protocol is not followed precisely, the patient is likely to go into full-blown withdrawal. The most common result of that is relapse to the drug of choice.

The bare fact of the matter is that heroin itself is a better choice than Methadone for detox, but it is not legal to use it that way.

The most effective, safest detox protocol is a medically-supervised inpatient program using Suboxone. Opiate detox with Suboxone, properly done, is far shorter and more effective than with other substances, due to its narcotic agonist/antagonist action. The likelihood of relapse is substantially reduced over other drugs and methods, provided that the patient really wants to remain clean.

Having said that, we must caution against the outpatient Suboxone detox that has become widely available in the US and other countries. Outpatient detox is rarely effective, and the doctors providing it are usually not trained in detox procedures. Many of them are storefront operations that, essentially, get the patients hooked on Suboxone and continue to administer it, rather than detoxing the patient and assisting them in finding further help.

how well does morphine IR 15mg q 8 hr for my migrainres instead of having to go to the Hospital. I have taken one and nothing has helped, so then I took another--- wait another hour, nothing, I take another one? Should they have given me a larger dose? No methadone does not come from the opium poppy. it is all synthetic and made in a lab. All it does is cover the opiate receptors in the brain. you need a whole other test for methadone. Suboxone may come up as an opiate in a hair test because it isn't all synthetic.

Methadone is simply a narcotic anlegesic, or in other words it is a pain killer that is similar to morphine, oxycodone, codeine ect... It is a very effective pain killer because it has a very long half-life, meaning it stays active in the body for a long time. Morphine may ease pain for 4 to 6 hours where Methadone may be effective for 12 to 16 hours. It comes with it's attendant complications however, including narcosis, constipation, sleepiness and the danger of overdose and addiction. No, if you take methadone, you should not mix it with suboxone. Make sure the methadone is out of you system before taking suboxone. Combining these medications can result in instant withdrawals and severe sickness.

Methadone is a SLOW acting opioid and will not produce a euphoric effect any faster by snorting it. Also, methadone expands the second it touches moisture. If you do not believe me, put one in a cup of water and watch. It will get stuck in your nose.

Most of the time if you are on MMT they are checking to see that you are taking the methadone. They usually are looking for metabolites as well as checking that the urine is positive for active methadone.

They do this because so many times ppl have tried to fake the test by putting methadone in the urine and had to come up with ways to remedy that. This is why they now check for methadone metabolite because this means that your body has to have processed the methadone.

PLEASE DO NOT be stupid and try to give it to someone else who has "clean" urine so that they can give you pee w/metabolized methadone in it. ALL over the internet you hear of ppl doing this and a minute dose can KILL someone who is not tolerant.

How bout just do us all a favor and take the methadone PROPERLY like you are suppose to and then it will show up metabolized in your own urine like it's suppose to? It is thing like this from ppl who aren't taking MMT seriously and/or are abusing the MMT system that make it harder for those that actually DO want to get better and ARE following the program correctly.

I am on Methadone for RA and I only take 10 mg 3 times a day plus they have me on 300 mg seroquel for sleeping problems I want to stop the seroquel because I notice that when I take the seroquel it first makes me really out of it but now I am feeling like I can not swollow, I get really scared and I am freaking myself out that is why I want to stop the medication but I am affraid of the withdrawl problems can anyone tell me what they are and if maybe I should not stop all meds at once I really need someone to help answer this I am at a lost of what to do Thank you guys for your time!!! Methadone withdrawal is long and uncomfortable, and I would recommend medical support, you need to tell a doctor and let them help you. I have been on methadone for 5 years, and I have swallowing difficulties too. I've had an EGD, where they look down your throat with a scope. Nothing was wrong, and since I had equal trouble swallowing solid food and liquids, they told me I had a problem with the esophageal muscles coordinating swallowing, meaning there was not much they could do for me. If you read ALL the side effects of methadone, in a Physician's Desk Reference, it does mention muscle problems. Although this is my opinion only, but I never had trouble swallowing before the methadone.

yes it is. but it will not give u the same feeling as Oxycontin... I myself like the feeling of Oxycontin more than morphine. And the morphine really doesnt help with my pain at all.

There are also a few things that should be noted with morphine, that often doctors are not even aware of. Morphine should NEVER be used for a patient experiencing acute or chronic pancreatitis. I learned this the hard way, as I was begging them to stop giving it to me, as it felt as though it were an acid, burning my stomach. Later, through research on my own, I found out that it is not supposed to be used on patients experiencing that illness.

I have also found, through personal experience and that of many others I know... morphine makes me very sick. I start vomiting almost immediately, and the jerking and spasms from the vomiting makes me hurt worse, defeating the purpose! It doesn't make sense, but they can give you morphine more often than they are allowed to give nausea injections in the hospital.

I have found Oxycontin, oxycodone, and the other meds in this family to be much less likely to cause the nausea and vomiting.

Methadone is added to juice (usually Tang instant orange juice, at least here in Canada anyway) for one simple reason: It's next to impossible to inject enough methadone to get high when it is diluted to 1mg per mL of liquid. Furthermore, the sugar in the Tang makes it just as hard to cook the juice down enough to get an amount reasonable for IV/IM/SC injection. The sugar turns the juice to sludge as it is boiled down. I know some people claim to have techniques for separating their methadone from the tang or somehow boiling it down without turning it to sludge, but I have never witnessed one personally. There are some people who trick their pharmacies into believing that they don't eat sugar for some reason in order to get sugar-free methadone and thereby allowing them to cook it down for injection a lot easier. My Dr has had me on Opana er for quite some time & over the past several months I've mentioned to him that the Opana er doesn't seem to last the full 12 hours that it is supposed to & I end up taking my 2nd daily dose earlier than 12 hrs after my first so when I awake in the morning I am in pain & also feel "hungered" which my Dr suggests is withdrawals since it has been longer than 12 hrs since my last dose.

He added 10 mg of Methadone per day for me to take, and I take it once daily now. It hasn't really decreased pain, which is mostly manageable with my Opana, but it has taken away that "hungover" feeling I was having & now I can wait the full 12 hours between doses so I am not withdrawing in the morning. It has been about 3 months since the change & boy what a difference it has made. I'm finally able to stay at an even-keel with my pain & also my opiate withdrawal feeling. My Dr has had me take blood tests twice since adding methadone & he's OK with what he's seeing.
