One should be a member of a church if they feel that that specific church is the true church. While most churches have services and activities open to the public, they also offer special opportunities for those who are official members. Being a member will make you a part of the church family - if you have hard times the congregation should care for you by visiting, providing meals, etc. In turn you will be expected to help other members of the congregation.

Though they are both Christian, Pentecostal is almost on the other spectrum of Christianity. Pentecostals believe in the baptismal of the Holy Ghost and in prophecy and healing. Pentecostals also are against drinking and divorce. Pentecostals support an intimate time of worship. Some branches of the pentecostal denomination also believe in no jewelry or makeup.

The biggest difference among the 3 is style of worship. The Episcopal Church is a bridge between the Roman Catholic and Protestants. It is rich in tradition and rituals. The majority of Episcopal churches are "high church", meaning being formal and adhering to a liturgical practice. The United Methodists are a direct ofshoot of the Episcopal church and shares most of its beliefs and doctrine. Unlike the Episcopal church, the United Methodists have been more willing to adopt contemporary styles of worship, including praise bands and the like. You will find many UMC that are liturgical and are somewhat formal in their worship. The Lutherans are somewhat in the middle of the other 2. All three are sacramental, believe in the Apostolic Succession, and have ordained ministries. All 3 are in a formal communion with each other-allowing for shared preaching and celebrating the sacraments.

John Wesley (1703 - 1791)is famous as one of the chief agents of what came to be known as the Wesleyan revival in England. Together with John Whitfield he preached to vast crowds in the open air, since the Church of England pulpits were closed to him. God honored his obedience and brought revival to many parts of England. Wesley rode many thousands of miles on horseback and is credited with the saying 'the world is my parish.'

Wesley, who was the second surviving son of Rector Samuel Wesley and Suzanna, who raised their family in a disciplined and pious manner. He later referred to himself as a 'brand plucked from the burning', as at age five the Rectory was burnt and he was forgotten until finally rescued.

As time went on, he organized what came to be known as the Methodist Church, so named after the nickname given to him and his brother Charles who together with others practiced a particular type of devotion to God and religious practice, which in Wesley's well-organized way was very methodical, hence the name. He was largely responsible for organizing the growing Methodist church and training and ordaining preachers who assisted him in spreading the Gospel.

For most of his long life Wesley enjoyed good health, which, as recorded in his Journal he attributed to:" (1) the power of God, which fitted him for his calling; (2) traveling 4-5,000 miles a year; (3) the ability to sleep at command, by either day or night; (4)having risen at 4 in the morning for over 60 years; (5) having preached at 5 in the morning for over fifty years; (6) lastly evenness of temper - I feel and grieve but by the grace of God I fret at nothing."

This latter quality was frequently called for, especially in the early days of the Methodist revival, as Wesley often became the brunt of the force of angry mobs, which he made a habit of calmly meeting and, upon talking calmly with the ringleaders often won them around. On more than one occasion, he calmly faced a violent death unperturbed.

John Wesley's mothers name was Susannah. She was strict and taught John and his siblings how to read and about the Bible. Many of the characteristics that define Methodism can be traced back to her.

I grew up in the Methodist church, and my grandfather is a retired methodist minister of about 40 years.

Also, I have attended many weddings. If your soon to be husband is Methodist, tell him you would like to meet the Minister. All Methodist ministers I have ever met, are very warm and welcoming. I'm sure that a small meet such as this will make you feel SO much more comfortable.

Both had no difficulty believing basic Christian Doctrines and being assigned to a particular parish by a Methodist Bishop.

Purple is the liturgical colour for lent and advent. The colour represents preparation, penitence and prayer. Purple can symbolise pain and suffering, and mourning and penitence so it fits the themes of lenten time. It is also the color of royalty so it is also used during Advent as we prepare to welcome the king at Christmas.

Methodists proclaim in every service to recognize the Catholic Church. Pentacostals believe in the gifts of the Holy Spirit among them...speaking in tongues and prophesy. The "day of Pentacost" refers to the "Upper Room" which Christians believe was a special enlightment.

There are many similarities between Catholic Churches and Church of England churches for the simple reason that all the original Church of England churches were Catholic Churches before they were stolen by King Henry VIII and appropriated for his new "church". They all contain an altar situated in a sanctuary, and a place for the people (called the nave). Many of them still contain a choir between the nave and the altar.
