Can I delete several types of BAK files that are in my recycle bin without having a problem?
.bak files are normally backups for files elsewhere on your PC. If they've been in your recycle bin for a while and your PC is running fine, then I would say it's safe to delete them. NO ITS NOT SAFE I DELETED BOOTSECT BAK AND WHEN I RESTARED MY COMPUTER IT CRASHED AND I HAD TO RESTORE THE SYSTEM AND IT TOOK 8 HOURS AND SONY SUPPORT!!!! ITS NOT WORTH THE EXTRA 8KILOBYTES OF ROOM TRUST ME!!! No, it's not safe. Until yesterday, I believed it was safe. 2 days ago, I deleted all my .bak files in an effort to "clean up" my PC. Yesterday, my MS Office apps all of a sudden did not work. I recalled what I had done and restored the .bak files from the recycle bin. All was then well. I don't know which .bak file was important, but I agree with the comment that whatever space they all take is worth not risking deleting an important one (or more).

You don't mention the name of the program in question. You could try using Revo Uninstaller; I found that useful to remove "stubborn" programs in the past.
