Well I'm guessing schools are different but in my school you could fail 2 minors or one major and pass. If you failed English and Math that would be the 2 majors so you failed, If you failed only one of the majors you'd pass. The minors were gym, social studies, science, home ec, french and Idustrial arts, you could fail any 2 of these and still pass the grade.So it all depends on how many test you pass but in 5th grade for me was 3 grades then you get held back.

Usually if there is an incentive it is that the employer may offer to pay for the class not pay them hourly while taking it.
