When was the first hot-rod made?

I would have to say, around the time the second car was built. Hot rodders are a competition driven type of person. A hot rod is a car modified for performance, or, all the way too an extension of themselves. So, quick analysis tells me, you would need a car, to make a hot rod, and a reason. That would be another car to "beat", or "upscale". If one goes back through the "motivation" of the "competition" hot rodder, in the beginning, there were not "drag strips". The first "organization" of hot rodders, was the DTV. Danville, Timing, Association. Timing. They governed the "dry lakebeds", which only one car ran at a time, and it was for timing, not side by side racing. Thinking back to my inspirations throughout my racing, the car set a base time. I modified it to "improve", or "reduce" that time, out of "pride", "challenge", and for a source of pride, and accomplishment. So, maybe I am wrong. Maybe it was way before the second car. It might have been the first one, a day, or so earlier..........Chuck.

Who would win in a quarter mile drag race 1991 Chevrolet s10 blazer or a 1998 Pontiac grand am se?

Need more info like engine size and differentail ratio. But I would guess the Blazer would get the jump off the line and the Grand Am would cross the finish line first.

What is the length of an NHRA track?

Officially a quarter mile, however, some tracks have shortened to an eighth mile for safety, and fuel consumtion reasons. All your NHRA major events will be a quarter mile though.

Who drove the Golden Angel Anglia drag car?

Henry Putman was the initial driver then the owner who was killed in the Valley Station Dragtrip return lane.

The "Angel" was owned originally by Hershel Powell who owned "Powells Pure" gas station on Berry Blvd in Louisville KY. The Driver/Owner that was killed in the "Angel" was Ed Payne. He was making test passes on the return road due to Ohio Valley being restriped and the paint was wet. The Straight axel broke on the passenger side causing the kingpin to break losing the front wheel sending the Angel into a cartwheel. Ed was not buckled in and was partially ejected...killing him at the scene. R.I.P. Ed Payne and the Golden Angel. 2 of Ky's Drag racing legend. The car has been "cloned" and is own by Louisvilles own "Deisel" Bill. The clone is a perfect replica and even runs similar times of the original Angel. It currently runs the "geezer gassers" curcuit.

What is needed to build a delay box for Drag Racing?

A Delay Box is a little complicated to build from the look of what I saw at http://www.biondoracing.com/DelayBoxes.shtml#MEGA200 perhaps you would be better off purchasing an older model.

There is a "Dedenbear RTD7 Reaction Delay Time Box, Race, Racing" on eBay sale ends 3 July.

Hope This Helps.

How do you fit a hydraulic handbrake?

Correct me if I am wrong but I think you are looking for what we used to call a " line lock ". The unit fits in the brake line for the front brakes at or near the master cylinder and locks the front brakes only for preloading at the start line of a drag race or performing burn outs when a little braking is needed and you dont want to heat up the rears. It is remote activated so anywhere in the line before it splits in two is fine and for ease of release the lock/unlock button should be on the shifter or steering wheel. It really helps when you have a manual shift vehicle and only two feet to work the controls.

Why does rear drag racing slicks have one white mark?

Drag race slicks are designed to grip. Any type of free spinning, or wheel spin, is wasted motion, and is not desired. The white line shows if the tire is free spinning, and in need of adjustments.

When did they start doing burn outs in drag racing?

The purpose of the burnout is to heat the tires up. Drag slicks really didn't hit the scene until the 60's. So, I would say somewhere around then. They used to, in the 70's, put bleech down, back the rear tires into it, then light it on fire, and do the burn out in it. That was before line locs. Anyway, those fire burn outs were awesome to watch.

Your car suddenly drags when coasting speed reaches 20mph could this be transmission or brakes?

Try putting in neutral at the time and see if it makes a difference. I had a similar problem w/1991 Lincoln and found that it was a recall from Ford. When brakes got warm they would apply, due to defective master cylinder

When was the first racing car invented?

The first racecar was invented in the 1930's.

Why do drag racing tires have no tread - isn't tread supposed to increase traction?

In ideal conditions, dry weather, great road surface etc. slick tyres offer more rubber to the road therefore greater traction. Normal road tyres are a compromise, on any one trip your car may have to cope with sunshine, rain, sleet, snow, bad road surface, smooth surface, mud, and gravel. Manufacturers have to make a tyre that can cope with that. The result is the tyre on your car.

What do you stand on when you win a race?

In European racing and some American series, when you win a race you stand on a podium. When you win a NASCAR race you stand on the roof of your car.

I drive a friends semi truck and trailer to the drag races for him. How many hours can I drive in a 24 hour period We do not haul for hire. Do I need to keep a log book?

Yes to the log book. Even if not for hire, that truck does not fall under any of the FMCSA exemptions, and you're bound by the same regulations are for-hire carriers, including hours of service (11 hours within a 14 hour period which starts counting down with your pre-trip inspection, then a mandatory 10 hours off-duty or in the sleeper berth).

How do you get a job in drag racing?

Well, there are a few different ways. First, there are schools, that advertise in certain car magazines, ie. Hot Rodf, Car Craft, ect., that can help. However, you have to take their course. If you are already a mechanic, build a car, and hang out at the drags. That is the old school way. Another way would be to apply for a job at your local track, or even start out volunteering. Circulate your name, and get known. Chuck.......

What is the purpose of soft tires on a drag racing car?

softer the compund of the tire, the more grip it has, down side is they don't last long, top fuel dragster tires last only 1.25 miles

Why do Drag Racers have big rear wheels?

Drag cars have large rear tires with no tread to grab more traction on the track surface. The rear tires also have lower air pressure so when the energy is transferred to the rear tires (as torque) the tires ripple and even more of the tire touches the track for more traction.

How do you do shift on drag race in nfs?

you hold LB for the clutch and push forwand on the right stick

How does drag race timers work?

There is a light beam on one side of the track, and a reflector on the other side. When the light beam is broken, the timer goes off. I think.

Why did they shorten the track in drag racing?

Combination of safety, and saving fuel. The cars don't get up to those lightening speeds, and it is easier on the parts, which saves money, and your fuel consumptions goes way down, along with those pollutants that those rich running race motors put out.
