Why was Norway a neutral country?

A more specific question would be nice, but i'll give a general answer.

Norway has not had much "military" power since the viking age, which ended around year 1066. Furtermore, modern Norway is a country that takes great pride in its peacefull ways.

As a consequence of this, norway has been hesitant do declare hostility to any other nation, and prone to attempt neutraility in major world conflicts, such as World War 1 and 2. It simply wouldn't do much good to anyone, should Norway call to arms in conflicts not assessed to concern them. (yes, they assesed wrong concerning WW2, as they quickly learned when the Germans invaded and occupied their country)

The same can pretty much be said for sweden and denmark aswell, in modern times at the very least.

But however neutral, Norway has allways had it's political affiliation towards the west, shown for instance by its membership in NATO.

But you can use "Bestefar" for both grandfathers. I myself use "Besten", which is used a lot in the western coast.
