Oregon is a traditional open carry state. However, their preemption statute only covers concealed handgun license holders from city or county passed bans against loaded firearms in public places. To our knowledge, only the cities of Portland, Beaverton, Tigard, Oregon City, Salem, and Independence have passed loaded firearms bans encompassing all public places, and other cities have passed bans specific to Parks. Also, all "public buildings" are also off limits throughout the entire state unless you have a concealed handgun license.

There was a logging camp at Tachkenitch Lake on Oregon's coastline, Hwy 101 near Gardiner Oregon. There is still historical floating cabins that were given to some of the workers to live in while they were logging the lake and it's surrounding area. There are only about 23 cabins left as out of the 69 original buildings and up to 100 lifetime deeds, Some of course have detoriated, and was removed or sunk. The remainder owners of the floating cabins have banned together to help keep these historical homes preserved and the lakes beauty and water quality as rated number three in cleanest lakes in Oregon.There were a few homes on land, a grocery store, a restraurant and also a floating dance floor in the lounge. Before the state took over, and put a camp ground in. The building was skidded across the street 101 highway and became a house, The couple that lived there, sold bait, and firewood up until aprox. 2008. The house is still standing and still lived in.

About a mile down the road is a privately owned house that used to be a gift shop, bait and tackle, and gas for your boat could be bought. This place was called Tachkenitch Village.
