Does the goddess bast or Bastet have anything to do with palestine?
Palestine is a conventional name, among others, for the geographic region in Western Asia between the Mediterranean Sea and the Jordan River, and various adjoining lands. The region has a long and tumultuous history as a crossroads for religion, culture, commerce, and politics. It has been home to Ancient Egyptians, Canaanites, Israelites, Assyrians, Babylonians, Persians, Ancient Greeks, Romans, Byzantines, the Sunni Arab Caliphates, the Shia Fatimid Caliphate, Crusaders, Ayyubids, Mameluks, Ottomans, the British and modern Israelis and Palestinians.
Bast has a history there, yes, because of the Ancient Egyptians, but it is likely a easily overlooked and buried one.
Why did the genocide in Palestine 1948 start?
There was no genocide in Palestine. This is hyperbole. To read about why what occurred in Palestine was not a genocide or to read about the actual reasons for the 1947-1949 Jewish-Arab Engagement or the general causes of the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict, please see the Related Questions below.
Is the War on Palestine legitimate?
The term "War on Palestine" is nebulous. Does it refer to the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict as a whole? Does it refer to Operation Cast Lead? Does it refer to Operation Pillar of Smoke? Does it refer to the Separation Fence? Does it refer to the military occupation of the West Bank? Does it refer to Arab countries holing Palestinians up in refugee camps for three generations? Does it refer to Lebanese military incursions into Palestinian Refugee Camps in Lebanon? Does it refer to how Palestinian passports and visas are not seen as legitimate pieces of paper?
Unless the term "War on Palestine" can be defined, we cannot begin a discussion. Additionally, the word "legitimate" is almost as nebulous as it can refer to moral right, legal right, classification procedures, and numerous other things.
Who were the peoples of Palestine in 1250 BC?
Until around 1250 BCE, the West Semitic people known as Canaanites were the inhabitants of Palestine. Around this time came an invasion of sea people from the west. Philistines occupied the southern coastal plains and foothills from the Egyptian border to approximately wher Tel Aviv is today. Other Sea People seem to have invaded farther north and captured Canaanite cities, installing their own ruling classes. The mountainous hinterland was sparsely populated, but there was soon an influx of settlers believed to have been the ancestors of the Israelites. Most scholars believe the Israelites to be Canaanite dissidents who left the coastal cities for the freedom of their own lands and rulers.
Free of what? Free of whom?
Many activists wish to see Palestine becoming free, but never seem to clearly state what that would look like on the ground. Is is an Islamist State, like Egypt is slowly becoming and Iran already is. That is what already exists in the Gaza Strip. If that replaces Israel, would that be a free state? I doubt the Palestinian Christians would agree, but it's not like they would have the right to do so (which they freely exercise in Israel). Perhaps, this Palestine would be an extension of the Fatah-led West Bank, which while better than Islamist Hamas-led Palestine would be incredibly corrupt and nepotistic. The Palestinian economy would stall and eventually, the country would become just like every other Arab State, which are all patently un-free.
Until the Palestinians can come up with a mechanism to be free regardless of the Israeli Occupation of the West Bank or Blockade of Gaza, there is no way for them to become free. Freedom is not given; it must be learned.

What is the impact of declaring Israel as a Jewish State?
The question can be read in two distinct ways based on context.
1) What is the impact in 1948 of the Jews in Mandatory Palestine declaring Israel as their state? -- This led to immediate attack by their Arab neighbors and resulted in the Jewish-Arab Engagement and the Arab-Israeli War of 1948-9.
In 1948, when the British announced the end of the Mandate, the Jewish Settlement used the opportunity and the legal avenue opened by U.N. Resolution 181 to declare a State (Israel). The day after, seven Arab armies from neighboring countries joined with the Arab Militias already operating in Mandatory Palestine to combat the new State. As the fighting progressed, Israel was able to repel the invaders and claim about 78% of the British Mandate of Palestine as the area of their new State. The War of Independence is considered by most to be an Israeli victory.
Throughout the fighting (from 1947-1949), numerous Palestinians were forced from their homes inside what would become Israeli territory. Other Palestinians left in fear that they too could be attacked and forced to leave. This climate of fear and and desire to leave was increased by those Arab leaders who actively encouraged such activities claiming that it would get civilians out of the way while the fighting occurred. After the War and the elimination of Israel, the Palestinians would return without worry. This did not happen, since Israel was victorious. Palestinians call this event (the overall war and removal from their homes) the Nakba or Great Catastrophe. Israel has refused the Right of Return for Palestinians, claiming that if they were allowed to return in large numbers, Israel would no longer have a Jewish majority, putting the entire purpose of a Jewish State in jeopardy.
2) Why is it so important to many Israelis and Jews outside of Israel that the Palestinian Authority call Israel a Jewish State? -- This is the recognition of Israel's mission for the Jewish people. Israel is a nation-state in the 19th century understanding of that term. This is in much the same way that Germany, Italy, Armenia, and many other countries are nation-states. Nobody questions Germany's right to maintain an ethnic-German majority in Germany or to base German laws on German cultural values. It is self-understood that if Germany wished to close its border to immigration, they could do so and maintain an ethnically German State. (They technically cannot close the border to EU migrations because of EU Law, but most immigrants to Germany are from countries outside of the EU.)
However, there is a strong push to allow resettlement of Palestinian refugees and their descendants into Israel, which would violate the Jewish national culture of the State of Israel. The entire purpose of the State of Israel is to create a State for Jews in both the sense that it is a place where they can live and a place permeated by Jewish values. The recognition by the Palestinian Authority that Israel is a Jewish State would be an implicit acquiescence to what Israel requires as the basis of Israeli-Palestinian negotiations: Palestine should be the State of the Palestinian Arabs. Palestine should be responsible for resettling the refugees of its people, not Israel. Because of this very implication, the Palestinian Authority has resisted calling Israel the Jewish State.

Why is Israel bombing Palestine?
The Israeli-Palestinian conflict has been ongoing since the mid-nineteen hundreds. It originated over land, borders and human rights. Religion is also deeply involved in the conflict. While peace agreements are the goal for these two territories, there is a deep mistrust between them.
What was the main conflict over the partitioning of Palestine?
When the United Nations passed Resolution 181, allocating territory to Jewish State and to an Arab State (Palestine), the Arabs rejected the plan leading to skirmishes between Jewish Militias and Arab Militias. In 1948, when the British announced the end of the Mandate, the Jewish Settlement used the opportunity and the legal avenue opened by Resolution 181 to declare a State (Israel). The day after, seven Arab armies from neighboring countries joined with the Arab Militias already operating. As the fighting progressed, Israel was able to repel the invaders and claim about 78% of British Mandate of Palestine as the grounds of their new state. The War is considered by most to be an Israeli Victory.
Throughout the fighting (from 1947-1949) numerous Palestinians were forced from their homes inside what would become Israeli territory. What has Britain contributed to the war in Gaza?
Nothing.
The United Kingdom has absolutely nothing to do with the conflict in Gaza. (It would be like asking "What does Australia have to do with the Indo-Pakistani Wars?")
The closest that Britain comes to contributing to the conflict is that over 60 years ago, Gaza and Israel were both part of the British Mandate of Palestine and the decision to give the United Nations the jurisdiction to direct the future of that Mandate came from the United Kingdom. The resulting formation of Israel and the later founding of the Palestinian Authority was as a result of the UN's decision, not from Britain.
How many Israelis killed and how many Palestinians killed since the state of Israel created?
If you do a search on the web of casualty numbers for all wars and conflicts between Israelis and Palestinians, you can find the numbers although there are many different reports on numbers especially on the Arab side which is less exact. I took the higher estimates for all and counted approximately 19,000 Palestinians killed by Israelis and 18,885 Israelis killed by Palestinians and other Arabs since the start of the conflict in the 1920s. Also note that a further 18,300 Palestinians were killed by other Arab groups (Black September, War of the Camps, etc.).
The amount of Israeli casualties from only conflicts with the Palestinians ranges from 2,000-3,000 individuals.
Who exiled the Jews and the Palestinians?
The Jews: 1) Around 2600 years ago, the Assyrians forcibly exiled the Ten Israelite tribes to points now unknown. A small percentage of each of these tribes is still among us, but most of them were exiled.
2) Around 2500 years ago, the Babylonians destroyed the First Temple and forcibly exiled the remainder of Israel's population to Babylonia.
While the Jews were permitted to return to Israel (Judea) seventy years later, and thousands did so (and rebuilt the Temple), most of them remained in Babylonia, while others began to settle in North Africa, southern Europe, the Crimea, throughout the Near East and elsewhere.
3) In 68 CE, the Romans destroyed the Second Temple. The Romans did not force the Jews out of Judea in a single expulsion. Rather, the Romans expelled them from Jerusalem only; and the rest of Judea lost its Jews slowly, over a period of centuries, as conditions in Judea became too harsh. Even then, we have records of Jewish communities who lived in Judea (Palestine) during the entire period of the last two millenia.
Those Jews who left Judea went to southern Europe, North Africa, Arabia, the Near East, and (slowly) further afield (especially throughout Europe).

Were the countries of both Israel and Palestine before or after the Arab-Israeli Conflict?
There was no country of Israel prior to 1948 (when Israel declared independence in Tel Aviv), although there had been Jewish States in the area 2000 years earlier.
There was no country of Palestine prior to 1988 (when Palestine declared independence in Tunis, Tunisia). There had never been an Arab State with its center in the southern Levant prior to this and the last Arab Empire to rule the southern Levant lost control to the Ottomans nearly 500 years ago.
The Arab-Israeli Conflict began in the 1920s between the the Yishuv (Jewish Settlers who would eventually become the Israelis) & their allies and the Arab Fellahin (Arab peasants who would eventually become the Palestinians) & the surrounding Arab countries. So, both Israel and Palestine came about as a result of the continuing conflict.
