Do blue parakeets bite?

Biting does not depends on a color of a bird, but it depends on how they were raised, and how comfortable they feel around the person who is handling them. I would say if they are hand fed, they are much less likely to bite. If you were to buy a parakeet, I would suggest leaving them alone in the cage for a day, and not handling them. This does not mean you should not talk to them, though. However, you should talk softly and calmly, and show the bird that you are a gentle person, and that is has nothing to be afraid of. Another thing, if you are afraid of the bird, and you try to hold it, the bird will know, and then they will be afraid. For example, if you get startled when they try to step up on your hand, that may scare the bird.

Hope I could help. (:

Should you get two girl parakeets or two boy parakeets?

Yes. Usually male birds are nicer than females. Why? Because females are more aggressive and tend to be "Queen of the Cage." Also, I was taking care of a female parakeet from a friend while she gets her life in order and a male hooked up with her. For the first time she had to babies and 4 more eggs. I came home from work, they were all dead. and she was biting the heck out of her nesting box. I did not have a clue. Then the male came back and she laid eggs again in her new nesting box, I came home from work and found a female and male pecking the heck out of her head and killed her! Plus, I saw that they destroyed the eggs she had laid. I was appalled! How do I tell my friend that my birds killed her beloved parakeet? Female parakeets can become vicious and the males are much nicer, friendlier and even can get them to mimic talking. They sing more and they love other parakeets, the females, are a different story! Hope this helps you in your search for the right parakeet

You put bird seed out in your yard and just recently you noticed a parakeet amongst the 40 or so birds that come to eat you live in NJ and would like to know what are the chances of the parakeet survi?

Are you talking about a pet parakeet? The only parakeet native to North America is extinct. There have been some escaped parakeets from other countries, and many are currently in the wild. Please be more specific on what breed it is.

*addition if you are talking about a budgie, then I don't think that it's very good. I have had about 15 and used to breed them, and they are sensitive to temperature. depends on where you live, but if you live somewhere that it snows, then that cold weather would probably kill it. I've never been to New Jersey so I'm not sure what the weather there is like, although I'm pretty sure you might get cold and snowy winters? I'm not sure also if the budgie would eat small pieces of gravel or sand or something, but they need gravel grit. They do not have stomach acid, so they rely on it to break up the food they eat. Without it, they can get very sick. One of my budgies got very ill from not eating gravel grit because we ran out and forgot to buy more. So it may live, but most likely not very long or well in the wild...

Why is my parakeet hyper?

Well it could be because you changed his/her food. My bird, Crosby, got really hyper when I changed his food from Parakeet- Finch and canary food to fruit blend flavor and he go really hyper. Seeds are kind of more ''fatty'' and lowers there life expectancy. So like humans when you eat healthier you can be more active. Hope I helped.

Can you hold your budgie?

Yes you can hold your budgie. There are two ways to hold your budgie one way is to carefully put your hands over his/her wings and pick him/her up but I find that most budgies don't like to be held that way. The other way is to put your finger or your hand against his/her stomach and push lightly against it and he/she will step onto it. Your budgie must be tamed for him/her to step on your finger or hand.

Have fun holding your budgie.

How do airplane windows keep out the cold?

The only way that heat can escape the warm cabin is to travel through something or radiate outward. Since the windows are so small, the radiation through the windows is minimized. But if you put your face to the window, you will feel that it is colder than the wall next to it. Heat is radiating outward, but it is very inefficient. Airplane windows are also multi-paned and therefore have a vacuum in the middle. That means that the heat cannot travel through the material of the window by means of conduction. It has to travel through the walls of the aircraft which have a very high R value or insulation rating.

Do parakeets long tail feathers grow back in?

Yes, over time, but the tail feathers shoul NEVER be cut. You could hit a blood feather and really hurt the bird. If the feathers and being pulled out by the bird, this is feather plucking and should be looked into (may be a sign of stress). If your parakeet is having the feathers fall out because of the side of the cage you may need a bigger cage or move the perches so the bird doesn't touch the side.

How smart are budgies?

Budgies are as smart as a 3 or 5 year old person.

Why does a parakeet perch on one foot?

When they rest, most of their body heat escapes from their feet (like our heads), so by keeping one up tucked under their feathers, they are preserving body heat while being balanced on the perch.

Should you buy a nest for your Parakeets?

Parakeets (and parrots/budgies in general) only need a nest if you intend to be breeding them. Otherwise they do not need one and you should probably not provide it or they may begin to act like they are nesting and ignore other activities.

What does it mean when your parakeets beak changes color?

That's normal. A parakeet's cere usually changes color after a year which is how you determine its gender. If I'm answering your question right, the "beak" you are refering to is the fleshy part above the beak.

If the beak (yellow-ish-orange-ish keratin area) is changing color, you should take him/her to the vet.

Is it nessaracy for parakeets to mate in it's lifetime?

No, but don't be surprised if your budgie shows you sexual signs after they have bonded with you. It's a completely normal thing and don't be alarmed. You'll see them "humping" their favorite toys or even your arm, and they have the tendency to regurgitate their food on items they love too, including you. ;)

Is it normal for a parakeet to not sit on it's eggs?

Since we have domesticated birds, this is okay since they are not in their natural habitat, we have disturbed their natural cycle in nature.

What does it mean when a parakeet looses its feathers around the ear?

Your bird could be suffering any number of ailments, from a cage mate who is plucking it, to French moult. If you have ruled out that another bird is plucking the feathers, take it to an avian veterinarian to help uncover the cause.
