What were people's reactions on Pearl Harbor?

Before WWII, 88% of Americans opposed American intervention in "Europe's War." FDR himself tried several ways to avoid intervention by passing the Lend-Lease Act with Britain. He wanted to avoid war but try to help the Allies win. After that plan failed, his only choice was deliberate provocation of the Japanese in order to enter the war, defeat Germany, and preserve democracy and national security. Due to the Pearl Harbor attack, Roosevelt knew that the people would want revenge against the Japanese and would want to enter the war.

What were the Hawaiian islands referred to before becoming part of the US?

Hawaii was first explored by people from Polynesia, and for centuries, Polynesian religion and culture dominated the Island. Captain James Cook, a British explorer, came to the Hawaiian Islands in 1778, and gradually British and western ideas began to become part of Hawaii; there was also a brief period of time in the early 1840s when England occupied the islands. But throughout much of its recorded history, Hawaii was an independent monarchy, with its own royal family, and a series of Kings and Queens who ruled.

Over the decades of the mid-to-late 1800s, however, it was Americans who came to be the most influential force on the islands: missionaries converted the native people to Christianity and discouraged many of Hawaii's indigenous cultural traditions. And American businesses gradually come to control much of Hawaii's economy, especially its sugarcane and pineapple plantations. America was able to overthrew the Hawaiian monarchy in a peaceful (but controversial) coup, circa 1893. In 1898, Hawaii became a territory of the United States.

Who convinced the Japanese leaders to attack midway island?

US Naval code-breakers. The US Naval intelligence (code-breakers section) had begun to crack the super-encrypted Japanese Naval Code Kaigun Ango Sho D (known by US code-breakers as AN-1 and later called JN-25). Simplistically, this was a complex 'code within a code'. The Japanese coded-messages were transmitted by radio and then heard by US military (and Allied) listening posts throughout the Pacific. These messages were sent to a central collection office within US Naval intelligence to be decoded if possible. The more messages collected, the better the chance of finding patterns that enabled decoding of small bits of messages. Because of the US Doolittle Raid of 18 April 1942, Japanese radio traffic using the JN-25 codes dramatically increased. This assisted the US code-breakers to determine that some sort of Japanese offensive was planned for the eastern part of New Guinea & the Solomon Islands. This information was used by Admiral Nimitz to position two US aircraft carriers in the area. The US intelligence information was verified by the subsequent Battle of Coral Sea from 4-8 May 1942. This validated the earlier decoding and helped the Code breakers project that the next Japanese strike would be aimed at Midway based on the latest intercepts & partial decoding. The Japanese final decision to invade & seize Midway happened on 5 May 1942. Japanese instructions went out by radio in code thereafter. Starting 14 May 1942, the US code-breakers were getting the first hints of the Japanese Midway operation. By the next week US Admiral Nimitz was fairly certain that the Japanese would attack Midway the first week in June.

What part of japan was bombed in World War 2 by Pearl Harbor?

Japan was only bombed after Pearl.

Pearl Harbor is in Hawaii. The Japanese bombed still neutal America in the hopes that...I really don't know what they were thinking, but probably to discourage them. Pearl Harbor was a naval base.

After the bombing, it brought the United States into the war, something the British, the only European country still actively fighting against Hitler, had waited for.

On August 6th, 1945, the first atomic bomb is dropped on Hiroshima, Japan. It kills 78,000 citizens. On the 9th of August, a second bomb is dropped on Nagasaki, Japan. On the 14 of August, Japan surrenders to America, ending six years of war.

(It was May 7th, 1945 when Germany surrendered)

Describe the US strategy of island-hopping in the Pacific?

The basic idea of the island hopping strategy was to block the Japanese from getting any further in their plans for invading the Dutch East Indies and other South East Asian countries and they had plans to take as many islands as they could which had the capability of sustaining an air plane runway or runways. They also wanted bases for their forces. The main efforts consisted of sea attacks on the islands first to soften up the Japanese or kill them. Then they did amphibious landings with the Marines. They would send in Army personnel after the Marines opened the way. The construction battalions came in to make the airfields or repair existing airfields. Now this explanation sounds so simple. No way was it easy for them. The more islands they conquered the harder it became at the next island.

What are the reasons why japan attack the Philippines?

The Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor, because the US cut off their oil supply. And the bombing, is also a factor that led to WWI.
The Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor for many reasons. One reason was because they wanted to have power. The Japanese already occupied China during the Spanish-American War. America didn't want to acknowledge their authority because America occupied the Philippines. Also, Japan along with the other Axis countries wanted itself to gain world domination by military force. Another reason for the bombing of Pearl Harbor was due to the fact that Japan needed natural resources like oil in order to expand. There were many other factors that led Japan to bombing, too.

Why the US was neutral before pearl harbor?

well if your to look at the entire 2nd world war it would be clear that the American government was not neutral before pearl harbor. there was a great relationship between Winston Churchill and Franklin Deleno Roosevelt during the war. and even before hand as well. Winston Churchill was elected to be the prime minister of the house of Parliament in great Britain and also the naval commander at the same time. now as the Nazi powers advanced taking over Poland and France and other various country's in Europe, Churchill and FRD were writing to another. FDR had wanted to trade with England like we did in WWI but knew since America was left in debt last time that congress would never pass a bill allowing that. FDR had decided to try to pass a bill on a Cash only bases. England would only get the material if they paid for it when they got it. this plan had worked and congress passed the bill. after a short time this plan was unsutable for england and FDR and Churchill finaly meet. at the atlantic charter. (a secret meeting between the two men) this i s where Churchill had COnvinced FDR that if england failed America was next. so then FDR had proposed a new deal that england could buy now pay later. so america was already strongly suporting england before thier official engagmeant to WWII. also Pearl habor was not a surprise attack. The navy had Radio recieving stations all along the coast of the americas and in Hawaii. "day of Deciete" is a great book to learn more about the knolege we had about pearl habor befor it happend

How did US respond to the 9 11 attacks?

It was a tough sad time. People were looking for husbands, wives, children, and friends hoping they had lived through the fires and the fall of the buildings. Pictures of people were posted on walls and some people went from hospital to hospital to look for those who were lost. In the meantime people responded from all over the nation to help look for people buried in the rubble and try to clean up the mess. Thousands came to NYC to search, feed the searchers, help in any way that they could. Many went to church to pray and some looked to Bush for guidance. The last time that something like this happened was Pearl Harbor and many of us didn't remember that event or live through it. This was our Pearl Harbor.
