Why do Air Force pilots have to be officers?

They have to be officers simply because a pilot designation is only available to officers. Under current policy in the Navy, Marines and Air Force, all pilots must be commissioned officers. The majority of Army pilots are Warrant Officers which falls in the rank structure higher than enlisted members, but lower than commissioned officers. There have been times in the past when enlisted personel have been designated as pilots in various programs within the services due to needs of the services etc. In WWII, there were many enlisted pilots, but few if any since then.

There are several reasons cited for the requirement for pilots to be officers. Some have referred to the need for more educated personnel to perform a task requiring more education, and general intelligence to be effective. Other's cite the need to compensate pilots at higher pay rates in order to keep them in the military for longer periods of time required to complete training, and become proficient.

Why did Jesus during his trial with pontius Pilot not answer Pilot's question What is truth?

The passage this question refers to is John 18:33-38 in the Bible. (specifically verses 37-38)

37"You are a king, then!" said Pilate.

Jesus answered, "You are right in saying I am a king. In fact, for this reason I was born, and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me." 38"What is truth?" Pilate asked. With this he went out again to the Jews and said, "I find no basis for a charge against him.

-(NIV )

Pilate seems to be asking a rhetorical question, as he leaves Jesus' presence before he has the chance to answer. "What is truth?" as if to say, "there is no such thing as truth", or "there is no One truth", or "give me a break". Had Pilate been truly inquiring Jesus would have responded, but as it was Pilate seems more concerned with relieving the political pressure be placed on him by the Jewish religious authorities of the day.

If Pilate's question is sincere, then perhaps his immediate departure to plead Jesus' innocence (v. 38) reveals a desire of Pilate's to speak privately with Jesus, after having cleared his name.

But as is evident, whether or not Pilate's question is sincere, Pilate's immediate concern is with maintaining order. Order at any cost was how Rome stayed in power and this was Pilate's duty. So, to that end, Pilate's first concern was to appease the angry mob and religious leaders (both of which pressure Pilate in all four gospels), even if that means ordering the execution of a man who he strongly believes is innocent. And that is just what happens (continue reading into John chapter 19).

Can fighter pilots wear contacts?

No, you cannot wear contacts as a pilot because of long range missions, and the dangers of having a contact issue at 45000 ft. From what I know, if you qualify, you can get eye surgery PROVIDED BY THE AIR FORCE, not LASIK or and other CIVILIAN eye doctor. I repeat if you plan on being a pilot, do not get LASIK, because it can ground you for life, wait until you enter the academy or whatnot, and then try to sign up for eye surgery thru the air force. However, if you don't qualify the Air Force has many other great carrer paths that are just as/more interesting as pilot!

What type of sidearm did the US Navy issue fighter pilots?

The standard military sidearm for pilots was the 38 caliber revolver. The 45 Govt. Model was the rage, but was always in short supply. Ground Combat units were supposed to get priority and wartime production couldn't keep up with demand. Paratroopers and other service members sometimes purchased their own 45's or preferred pistols. 45 cal Govt Models did make it to some aviation units either directly or from begging, borrowing, trading, or stealing.

How do you get a pilot's license?

Obtaining a pilot's license entails several hours in an aircraft with a Certified Flight Instructor (CFI). Certified Flight Instructors typically can be found operating in association with the Fixed Base Operator (FBO) at the nearest airport. That is to say, the journey to the pilot's license begins at the airport, at the office nearby where all the light planes are parked on the ramp. Your instructor will not only teach you how to fly he/she will also show you the ropes and prep you for your written test and flight check ride. He/she will act as your flying mentor and stay with you until you get your license.

What are the requirements for being an RAF pilot?

1. Eligibility to join UK Armed Forces - usually UK citizenship or citizenship of a Commonwealth country plus 5 years residence in the UK. High level security vetting and clearance. (NB Citizens of the Irish Republic are usually eligible to join UK Armed Forces.)

2. Meet educational and medical requirements.

Potential pilots need at least 5 GCSE passes (incl English, Maths, & Science) and 2 full A Level passes at minimum grade C. It is also worth noting that most potential RAF officers these days are university graduates - it's not a strict requirement, but the majority (90%+) will be.

Aircrew medical requirements are very stringent - perfect health; excellent lung capacity, cardiovascular fitness etc, plus excellent uncorrected vision, no neurological impairments etc.

3. Pass the RAF Officer Selection process, as well as Air Crew Selection.

4. Complete successfully the Officer Commissioning Course at RAF College, Cranwell.

5. Complete successfully all phases of RAF pilot training - roughly a 2-3 year process varying slightly depending on the exact flying roles candidates are aiming for: fast jet/ strike is different from transport; fixed wing is different from rotary (helicopters) etc.

Do pilots get drug tested?

The routine FAA medical examination does not test for alcohol use and it does not include a blood test. The urine test, which is performed by Aviation Medical Examiner's, is a screening test for diabetes and kidney disease and normally does not include a drug test.

Professional pilots are typically required to submit to regular drug testing. Pilots which test positive for illegal drugs, and those reporting their use of a disqualifying drug or medication, must be evaluated to establish eligibility for FAA medical certification.

Can a person with diabetes get a pilots license?

I'm pretty sure you can still get your license, but you may have limitations on your medical certificate. (For specific information, contact your local Aviation Medical Examiner. You can look up a local AME here: http://www.faa.gov/pilots/amelocator/ .)
