Pool Heating

Pool heating provides more enjoyment and comfort to swimmers. But since pool heating can add up to high heating bills and consumes a lot of energy, pool owners should use energy-saving pool heating systems such as solar pool heaters.

Will a booster pump help heat the pool with gas heater on?

No. generally a booster pump is used to run a pressure side cleaner.

Will running a black hose from pool to pump heat up your pool?

No, it won't. Even if the black hose is in the sun, the surface area is too small and the transit time of water too brief to absorb much heat. Black 4'x20' solar panels are available to perform the heating you are thinking about. They are a series of thin black tubes that expose small columns of water to sun. They are about $200 each. Blackhern says: I run my children's 12'x36" pool water through 400' of the cheaper 3/4" black PVC hose with a 1/2 hp sump pump (total cost $200) and: I raise the temperature 2 degrees at the end! I've been able to get the pool up to 76 degrees so far with 78 degrees at the hose. I'm going to experiment with covering the hose coil with 6 mil plastic in a black lined 6'x8' 4" high "box" to make sort of a greenhouse effect. I'll get back to you. Please keep in mind volume is the crucial factor here. One solar panel mentioned above will not provide the volume of flow you will need for larger pools. If I were to heat our 18'x48" pool I would have to use two sump pumps and 1000' of black hose (at least). If you don't have the south sun exposure in your backyard your spouse may not be too crazy about all that hose on the front yard. writing from Toronto, Canada

Is a pool heat pump a pump also or does it require a pump?

A heat pump's name is a bit deceiving, it's just an appliance that heats water. You still need a normal pump and filter combination to move and filter the water.

Why would the swimming pool heater get hot but not warm the pool water?

Some pool heaters have an internal bypass valve that improves efficiency by limiting the amount of water flowing through the heat exchanger. These can stick so that water flow mostly bypasses the heat exchanger...the heater gets hot but very little heat is transferred to the pool.

Other answerers have suggested the following:

  • Your airflow over the pool is cooling the water even as it is being heated
  • You may not be running the pool pump long enough. Is the heater not maintaining temp? Is the thermostat turned up? Is the filter clean? When was the last time it was back washed or cleaned?
  • You may be using the wrong size heater for your pool and the water to heat ratio that your heater is made to work with may be out.

What if your pool heater broke now you only want to heat your spa What size heater would heat a 6 person jacuzzi?

I would go with no less than a 250,000btu. Reason being is the smaller you get the more time it takes to heat the spa thus using more gas. I prefer a 330,000btu. It will heat the spa in 50f water to 100f in approximately 30-40mins.

How long with the temp outside at 78 degrees does it take for an outdoor pool to heat up to swimming temp?

I am a national lifeguard, working at an outdoor pool. Temperature should be between 74 ~ 80. If it's over 80 degree, there is possibly a great chance of bacteria growing.

Do you still need to run your vacuum 8 hours a day if you are keeping the cover on and the pool is not in use?

if you have closed your pool down for the winter (i.e. winterized it) then no. you should have put in a good dose of chemicals & if you live in an area the freezes you should drain the pool an inch or two below the water jets so you won't be able to run the pump anyway

How many cubic feet in a 20' x 40' x 8' swimming pool?

Depends upon the depth in the shallow end if it is 4 feet deep you add 4ft and 8ft you come up with 12 divide that by 2 you get 6 which is the average dept of the pool multiply the area 20x40 =800x6=4800 cubic feet approximately.

What is best way to replace a Hayward H series heat exchanger in a pool heater?

The heat exchanger is the most expensive part to replace in your heater. The recommended thing to do would be contact a professional and have it installed. Maintaining proper water chemistry is the key to not having to replace it again. I have seen them be ruined in less that a week due to improper balance. Find your owner's manual that came with the heater and they give explicit advice on taking care of your pool heater.

Should you heat your above-ground pool with a gas heater or an off-your-house boiler?

You can only put the gas heater option ,the heat won't be much so just it. the house boiler is just useless so i don't recommend any one to use it .

Why are the bubbles in the solar pool cover deflated?

The reason could be caused from putting your solar cover back on the pool after you have just shocked the pool, the other reason could be that you are not placing your solar cover in the shade or covering it when you remove it from the pool. Both can casue the bubbles to deflate and or cause them to come apart from the solar cover.

ANSW::

dragging the cover over the coping and across the deck will cause wear and breaking of the bubbles. Leaving the cover on the grass or cement deck will generate very high heat and destroy the cover in a very short period.

k Answer: If you're bubbles have popped, maybe its time to try something new. Check out www.liquidpoolcovers.com for a nice and easy alternative to plastic bubble blankets that you won't have to fight with.

How long does it take for a heat pump to warm an inground swimming pool in New York State in 55-75 degree weather?

Well, it depends on the size of heat pump and the size of pool!

However, a 30x12 ft, 2-3.5ft deep pool with an 18kw heater will take 4 to 5 days.

How long will it take for your pool to warm up temperature after filling?

It depends on the size of the pool, where you live, and the weather. Generally I would say a pool that is 60 degrees will be 70 degrees with regular weather such as 70-75. Good luck with your pool! Source: I have a pool myself and 4 years of weather and climate classes.

What causes AGS error on Laars pool heater Model lx400n?

Manual says 'Automatic Gas Shutoff' heater probably is not igniting. Should call your pool man. Manual recommends not to light manually. Please don't try (if you like your eyebrows) :-)

Is there less algae growth with a blue solar blanket over a clear solar blanket?

The color of the blanket is not rellevant. However, algae multiplies much faster in warm water and gas trapped under a solar cover can be converted into algae food. The cover should be removed during peak heating hours and put back on afterwards.

Pool water gets hot without the cover all on its own. The cover is to prevent heat loss more than to multiply heat gain. We see many more pools with algae if covered all the time rather than those where the cover is removed often.

Pool & Spa

The colour of a blanket can make all the difference... there is a swimming pool cover called EnergyGuard. It has been proven to stop algae growth, as well as saving time, money, water and energy usage. The product is unique with its dark blue top surface and a black underside. This means that the cover absorbs the sun's heat while blocking the sunlight from entering the water, therefore stopping photosynthesis and algae growth. A UK test lasting two months established that a pool with an EnergyGuard cover remained clear of algae without chemical treatment. In a winter test from October 2008 to April 2009, a UK pool was covered with an EnergyGuard cover and a woven mesh debris cover. No winter pool chemicals were used. The water was clear of algae after the 6 month winter period.

Hope that is useful

Thanks

Do outdoor pools have thermostats that are controlled by air temperature?

No. It would be very uncommon for a thermostat to determine whether to turn the pool heater on based on the outdoor AIR temperature. All pool thermostats monitor the WATER temperature. In this way, they keep the water at a predetermined temperature (just like your house thermostat). When the water is cooler than the predetermined setting, the thermostat turns the heater on. When the water is cooler than the preset temperature, the heater is turned off. In this manner the pool water maintains the desired temperature regardless of changes in the air temperature. You could re-wire your thermostat to use air temperature rather than water temperature to turn the pool heater on/off so that whenever the AIR becomes colder than a preset temperature (and for as long as the air temperature stayed below that value), the heater would come on. The potential problem with this arrangement is that the heater could be continually on (as long as the air stayed cooler than the preset value) and the water would be continuously heated to a VERY high temperature! Conversely, if the air were continually warmer than the preset value, the heater might never turn on. Hope this helps ...

Do you need to heat a pool in 70 degree weather?

Yes: assuming you want your pool to be higher than 70 degrees. Trust me you do, the common temp for a pool is 82-84 degrees F.

Time required to heat a 30000 gallon pool with a solar blanket cover?

We have a 36,000 gal pool with a clear solar cover/blanket. The color/thicknes/ect.. really makes little difference as we have had every type. If you keep your pool covered day and NIGHT you can expect to gain about 3-4 degrees per day if the ambient temperature during the day is above 75% and it is mostly sunny or better. The real gain from the solar cover comes at night by eliminating evaporation. As we all learned in science class the process of evaporation cools. Hence your dog pants to evaporate the saliva off from his toung and cooling himself. His own little air conditioner! This is why many vendors call it a blanket versus a cover as it insulates the pool during the night.

One other thing that will help is to have your pump set to come on during the warm part of morning usually 9-10 AM and go off when the day cools off around 9 pm. Cover the pool up as soon as you are done using it. This varies by your climate but running the pump during the day keeps the water circulating and distributing heat through the pool. It has the exact same effect at night but it circulates the water up by the cover where the water is cooler. Once your pool is up to temperature (we like 80%) be carefull if you leave for the weekend. We have made this mistake only to come home to find our pool at 86%. At this temperature you can have algee blooms overnight. If it happens it would be a good time to shock the pool

One last disclaimer we live in Michigan, not in Arizona where this advice would never apply. Hope this helps.

Does the woodlands resort and conference center have a heated pool?

On a regular basis, we do not have a heated pool. On occasion, we will heat the back pool during Spring Break week only.

Can one suffocate in a pool solar cover?

yes it has happened when you step on it or fall on it it will move around you like a rubber tube so no matter how much you squirm it will just get tighter and tighter until it completely covers you. i hope this helps
