There is many reasons. One of them is because Puertorican feel Americanized and they like US. We like US and you can see that the second largest group of Latinos after Mexican are the Puertorican. For other side, we has made biggest contribution to US and it not would be fair from the US to let Puerto Rico alone. And there is some people that want the independece for Puerto Rico, but that are a small minority. Maybe in the 1940's independence has a lot of followers, but nowaday that is not true.
