What are symptoms of rabies if you get bitten from a mice?

There is no test for rabies. You would have to take the shots for rabies if you thought that you did have rabies and would be concerned about the possibility. However, statistically, it is unlikely that you would have contracted rabies.

The mouse would have had to have been bitten by an animal with rabies and survived the bite in order to become infected.

If you have captured the mouse, you could take it to the local health department to be tested for rabies.

How did Edgar Allan Poe die from rabies?

No, Poe did not die from rabies.

This theory first arose in 1996 by a Dr. Michael Benitez. He had read an article on Poe's death written by a Charles Scarlett, Jr. in 1978. In that article, Scarlett commented that Poe had been given a drink of water but that he had difficulty swallowing it. From this single second hand statement, Benitez theorized that Poe exhibited two symptoms of rabies, namely difficulty in swallowing and hydrophobia (fear of water). The problem with the theory is that its factual assumptions are wrong.

Poe's physician, Dr. John Moran attended Poe at his deathbed. In 1885, Dr. Moran stated that he had put a lump of ice in Poe's mouth and gave him some water to see if he could swallow it. Dr. Moran wrote that Poe drank half a glass with no problem.

Since Benitez bases his rabies theory on Poe being unable to drink a little water and since Poe actually was able to drink water with no problem, the rabies theory is simply a dog that just won't hunt. In other words, it's wrong.

Could a dog born in the middle of the nineteenth century have a had rabies immunization?

The rabies vaccine wasn't discovered/invented until 1885, so the answer would be "no" if asking whether it was available in the mid-1800's.

How long has rabies been around?

I think rabies has been around for about 4,000 years. Or at least dating back to at least the ancient Greeks and Romans. (The number one animal infected with rabies was Racoons, which somewhere in the 70s 80s or 90s ranged from at least 1,800 racoons that year)

Hope I helped. =D I am currently writing a research paper on rabies and it said something about rabies being around for quite a while.

Does canine rabies vaccine protect wolf hybrids?

That is a wide-spread debate.

However, it can be argued that on the genetic level, wolves and dogs are essentially the same and so it makes no sense that the vaccine would not be effective. Also, domestic dogs are descended from wolves, so that makes sense too. BUT! That's just one side of things.

I own a wolf hybrid and he's received all the same vaccinations as my domestic dogs and has had no more severe a health complication that the average domestic dog. Therefore, I would submit that his vaccinations have been just as effective.

I heard from Vinnie the Snitch over there between 1st and Oak that rabies only affect mammals. Since snails have shells they're mammals. If you see a snail moving very slowly covered in slime it most definitely has rabies. Just don't touch with your pinky and you'll be fine.

Will rabies ever kill human species?

Yes, rabies can kill humans. Rabies, in humans, causes a fear of water = dehydration, it can also give you a high fever and massive headaches. If yo die from Rabies, it is hard to figure out what killed you, it takes multiple tests and dissections to rule out that the cause is rabies. It can be treated though. You will need to get 100 shots (I'm not kidding either) an average of 4 people die each year from rabies.

Rabies is an old disease, so we'll likely never know what species had it first.

Did they get zombies from rabies?

No, but you get very sick and you'll die w/o medical treatment.

Rabies is invariably fatal with or without treatment once the symptoms appear, the only realistic chance is a vaccine shortly (within a few days) after being bitten by an infected animal. There have been cases where extreme measures have saved lives, but this is extremely rare. Rabies causes acute encephalitis and an individual becomes extremely ill and usually dies within 7-20 days, although occasionally people may live longer if they are vented. There was a recent case of a young girl surviving in Wisconsin in 2004, she was put into a sleep induced coma and given a cocktail of drugs to boost her immune system, she came out of the coma and after a year of rehab, she was able to function very well. A remarkable young lady. The Milwaukee Protocol as it's called has been tried (maybe) 20 times and I believe it's worked two or three times, so there is some hope but it's still a long way away from a cure. God willing, we will find a cure for the actual disease some day but for now, there is a vaccine that works if used before the symptoms appear. I think most people would want to be zombies rather than face this disease!
