i had this issue with my RR. i had to replace the transmission ECU at the dealership. the transmission could not or would not allow the car to get out of first gear. after burning through first gear and getting up to speed, it may get out of first gear. over time, this will damage your transmission.

To find a used Range Rover P38 in Edinburgh, try the dealers Pentland Land Rover or John Clark. You might also find a used P38 on Gumtree or Trovit Cars, and AutoTrader is also a likely place to find one.

I've seen this on P38's where the temp gauge rises when A.C is turned on. It was due to a short on the earth wire (attached to the body under engine) - temp was not actually rising, just giving a false reading. From memory the gauge rose further (into the red) if lights were also switched on - further load on the system. Hope this helps.

Fill your radiator and overflow reservoir with coolant. Put the radiator cap on. Look on or near your intake manifold for the bleed valve, open it with the engine running BUT NOT HOT, and close it after the coolant runs out without bubbles. Be sure that your heater control is placed to full hot so the air will also purge out of you heat exchanger. If you do not find this valve, you can accomplish the same thing by loosening the hose clamp on the highest end of the highest hose (usually a heater hose) and letting the air bleed out at the joint. These are general instructions. You should consult a shop manual for specific cautions and instructions before you begin. Some engines will self-purge--this may be one of those.

MAIN AMPLIFIER LOCATION:

I found the main amplifier (not the small subwoofer amp) of my 2001 RR HSE located between the subwoofer and the outer body panel of the car. (If you had X-ray vision you would look through the subwoofer and see it behind)

1 - Remove the subwoofer

2 - Remove the CD changer

3 - Remove the metal brackets that hold the subwoofer / changer

4 - Remove the interior panel that goes from the rear seat to the tail light (was blocked by the subwoofer)

5 - Remove the sound insulation fabric

6 - The amp is located directly between where the subwoofer was, and the exterior of the car.

Fairly straightforward operation actually. I always would suggest consulting Rave or hardcopy workshop manual. (Both can be downloaded for free on the internet with a minimal of search effort)

1. Make sure that your engine is "overnight" cool.

2. Place a oil change pan or similar large catch area container under the center point of radiator.

3. Put safety goggles or other eye protection on, sufficient to block splashing from any angle.

4. With a large blade standard screwdriver loosen the plastic drainplug, confirm correct placement of the catching container then remove plug.

( As you probably know but important enough to.mention, antifreeze/coolant is extremely toxic for the environment, poisonous to small children, and deadly to pets especially dogs. An ingredient of the chemical actually will attract animals, pets and dogs due to a sweet flavor and when they find it will consume it with sure mortal consequences. Dispose of properly, your local auto parts store will most likely have free disposal for you or be able to advise you.)

5. With coolant drained remove the hose clamp from the end of the radiator, bottom passenger side. I find this most easily done with a pair of vise-grips. Lock them on and you are free to move the clamp and hose as needed.

6. Repeat same for top hose and expansion tank hose.

7 with all hoses.disconnected, return to bottom of radiator and on each end you will find a nut securing the radiator to the frame. (10mm I believe) remove both.

8. once this is done, assuming you first removed top fan cowling and unclipped the shroud (best to leave shroud hanging around fan as you will have to break it to remove in advance of radiator removal) the radiator is unattached except for the rubber bushes at each end on the top.

9. With a firm "juggle and pull" you should sense your radiator break free to slide up and out of its frame like bread from a toaster.

10. Replace simply in reverse order.

A couple additional suggestions, replace all your hoses, flush your engine thoroughly, as well as the new radiator prior to reconnection. If doing it on the skinny, at the very least replace your expansion tank hard line. If any type of stop leak or other mechanic in a bottle was used due to overheating etc, I also suggest replacing the expansion tank. The entire system can be crippled by clogging of the 2 mm flow hole incorporated into the tank top.

Finally, once installed, you must bleed or "burp" your cooling system.

Perhaps it's a color that you like better than other folks. Perhaps it's the fact that there is a shortage of supply of vehicles -- or that particular vehicle -- in your area, which explains the higher-than-average price in your search location. If there is no vehicle of better value out there, then you are not overpaying, even if you are paying more than the bluebook says.
