There have been hundreds of artists to have recorded Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. However, it was Gene Autry that made it a number one hit in 1949.

Dolly, like the other Misfit Toys, was not wanted or loved by any child. Her reason for being there was never mentioned in the special, but Rudolph's producer, Arthur Rankin Jr., says Dolly's problem was psychological, caused by being abandoned by a little girl and being depressed because she was unloved.

Clarice is from a different family, but she is Rudolph's girlfriend.

This is the NUMBER ONE question asked about the Rudolph special. Despite Dolly being very sweet and adorable, she's a Misfit because:

1) Charley-In-The-Box says that a Misfit Toy is one that "NO LITTLE CHILD LOVES". Dolly found herself unloved for lack of good reason, and/or possibly because she was a rag doll at a time when the more "realistic" dolls were the latest craze (e.g. listen to Foreman Elf tell Hermey about the dolls that "children want" while watching Rudolph).

2) Also, Rudolph's producer says Dolly was abandoned by her little girl and suffered depression from being unloved. Perhaps she wound up a present to a girl who (like all the others) also didn't want her and cast her away.

The only thing "defective or "broken" about Dolly was her broken heart, caused by being unwanted. But Rudolph and Santa found her a loving little girl to want and love her.

I have no idea. I would assume that it was around the time when the tale of Father Christmas and His Reindeer was created. By the way, it's spelt Rudolph.

Rudolph learnt to fly by going to reindeer school. he had to pull a kids sledge across a Field and then he was sprinkled with special dust. he now flys by getting sprinkled with dust and he has wings on his hooves.

he became a reindeer, not because of his jumping or flying ability, but because his nose could cast a great red glow when it was foggy and snowing very hard, that way Santa could see exactly where to steer the sleigh, so he would not get lost.

Rudolph's mother is not one of Santa's famous 8 reindeer. Her name, in the 1998 movie, is Mitzi. She has also been referred to as Mrs. Donner, (in the 1964 TV special.)

I believe your chronology is off, film I am thinking of came out in the 2lSt century- and is called The Polar Express. Kids are abducted ( they kind of tone this down) in their sleep to ride magical railroad train ( steam powered) to the North Pole. Picture mixed live action, trick photography and computer animation. I would not waste my time looking at this (four feather falls- four bagger!) for something that does not exist- Clausism. In the light that Christmas IS a Religious holiday the theme song ( Believe_) which fosters belief in Clausism, is almost sacrilegious. On the other hand the various forms of (here Comes Santa Claus- had lines like ( Let"s give Thanks to the Lord Above- that Santa Claus comes tonight)- at least acknowledged Saint"s background.

First, in the first stanza it describes Rudolph with his shiny nose, then it goes on that Santa's other reindeers laughed and made fun of him and called him names and that Rudolph couldn't play with them. It goes on that on a foggy Christmas eve Santa asked Rudolph to guide his sleigh since Rudolphs nose was so bright. After that happened the reindeers learned to love hime and be nicer to him. They shouted his names in glee. Finally, the last 2 lines show that Rudolph will soon be known and loved by everyone!

The Rankin/Bass stop-motion television special debuted in 1964.
