Here in the Vancouver, B.C. Canada area, white rice is a lot cheaper than brown rice. Also there is a lot more vareity of brands and bag sizes for white rice to choose from whereas with brown, we only have 2 or 3 brand choices and only small quantity bags. You can not buy a bag of brown rice that is more than 3kg here. For example here 8Kg of white rooster thai rice is $15CAD, 10kg of white Kokuho Japanese rice is $20. Whereas 2.5kg of brown Nishiki Japanese rice is $8 and 2.5KG of brown Indian rice is $6. My only guess is that the higher demand for white rice cause it to be more mass produced so that drives the prices down. People like the taste of white rice more and it lasts longer in storage than brown. I'm one of the few people here who prefer brown rice instead for it's health benefits and I think it tastes just as good anyways even though I'm Japanese. So yes all of my friends and family and girlfriend tell me they still like white rice more.

I know Taco Bell used to use Mexican Seasoned Rice for most of their creations. Now they have switched over to Cilanto Rice.

Also, rice bran and rice grains, when coarsely ground, are useful as a facial scrub. You can mix the rice powder or bran with a small amount of water or liquid facial cleanser and wash the face in the normal way. The result is smooth, exfoliated skin. Brown rice was not invented. Brown rice is a product of milling rice without polishing off the natural rice bran layer. Only the husk is removed. Rice bran is normally brown in color. Some varieties of rice have black, violet or red bran layers therefore are called as such. Ancient people ate brown rice because the polisher wasn't invented yet and rice was kept in the husk and processed only before eating . Today millions of tons of rice are processed into white rice. Why? Brown rice spoils in 6 months because of the oil in the bran. If you don't keep them in the husk they oxidize.
