The beginning of the Russian Revolution occurred when unemployed workers and women on breadlines in Petrograd (formerly St. Petesrburg) began demonstrating against the the Tsar in particular and his government's in general for failure to ensure that there was enough food and other goods to go around to everyone. As the demonstration continued, more and more people, including soldiers from the city's garrison, came out into the streets and joined them. The unrest spread to other cities, got out of control and the Russian Revolution was on.

Some would say that Bloody Sunday in 1905 marked the beginning of the revolution, because the people of Russia were outraged by the killing of innocent and peaceful marchers. On that day, Russians stopped believing that the Tsar was their "little father" who would take care of their grievances and started believing that he was just another tyrant.
