Ideally 0.5 - 12inches(ie. avoid hitting it, but if you do, hit it very gently/slowly... don't whack it, show you have control of the car)... a little over won't matter........ don't be wider than 18inches. Also if it doesn't work out where you would like it, don't say you're finished... fix it (by fix it, I don't mean start it all over again, that's unacceptable, you might make a hash of it again).

If a builder when building a wall, recognises he's not quite done it right a couple of feet below from where he's at, he doesn't smash the whole thing down and start over again..... he's more likely to take it back to where it started to go wrong and re-do it from there.

How often do you see drivers with licences adjust their parking efforts? It's the same for you. Ask your instructor to show you the best way to fix your attempts for both too close or too wide, so that you will know how to do it should it happen, which it can.

If you were approaching a cliff, would you continue to walk over the edge, or would you try a different route? It's the same when carrying out these exercises............ if it's going to be a definite fail... FIX IT. Also ask him if you may fix it.... if he thinks it's an ok attempt he will just ask you to continue and move on. If he would like to see it done better he'll allow you to fix it.

This is what happens in UK, but I see no reason why USA examiners wouldn't use common sense... it's a demonstration of your ability to drive a car... not some nasty plot to mess with your head.

Fatigue definitely does. If your tired, your focus is no where near as sharp as if you were fully alert. As for emotions, you could miss out something important if you are angry/frustrated.

Is listed in the owners manual and printed on the sticker either on the door or the door jam of the drivers door.

There should be a sticker on the drivers door somewhere or on the vertical post next to it. Don't just look on the edge of the door by the latch, I had an older C-20 that had the sticker on top of the door edge.

Depends on if your shifting from 4 Hi or 4 Low to 2 wheel drive. If going from 4 Hi to 2 Hi you can shift it while moving, if going from 4 Low to 2 Hi, you must stop and put it in neutral.

It can be very dangerous especially at high speed. Many accidents happen due to this very thing. Blow a tire at high speed and you may very well loose control of the vehicle.

The term 'pulling out' means to move off from a stopped position and join the flow of traffic. This would generally mean moving forward.

Put the vehicle in neutral and shut it off.

Make absolutely certain when you shut the car off that you don't rotate the key back too far or you will lock the steering wheel and be unable to steer the car. Just turn the key far enough to shut off the engine. Be careful.

Just another thought... once you shut off the motor the car will be very difficult to steer and brake as the power steering and brake systems will be shut down.

you are supposed to pump the breaks until you feel that you are stable again. Also, you must remain calm!

If you are driving with friends or family, have a conversation! Crank up the music, and even sing along! Listen to a book on tape or a podcast or talk show. Take the scenic route and enjoy the view, rather than speeding along the interstate counting down the miles. If you can afford a little extra time, make occasional stops and get out to stretch your legs. Do a little site seeing along the way. Stop by a fast-food drive through for an order of fries and a drink. Don't order anything that will make driving complicated though! Always have a hand on the steering wheel! (M&Ms are a good snack with a little sugar boost for long nighttime car rides.) Relax. Take the extra time to just think and take a break from the stresses of life.

In the U.S. the law varies from state to state, in Oregon you must park no further than 12 inches from the curb. Some states allow as much as 18 inches.

Ideally for safety, I tell drive students to be about 6 inches from the curb, there is less chance a passing vehicle will hit your car.
