What would you do if a head on collision is unavoidable?

Try my very best to avoid it, to turn it into a side-on impact. Brake, if time tighten the seat belt, remove glasses, slide seat backwards away from pedals, steering wheel and dash.

What do you do when your car is skidding?

Hold your steering wheel hard, and don't slam on your brakes. tap them instead, because slamming on your brakes just makes it slide faster, and you will not be able to steer. Just let go of the accelerator, tap on the brakes, and wait until you stop.

What is the word when your wheels lose control?

Your wheels don't lose control. You lose control, when the wheels lose traction.

On normal pavement it's called a skid or spin. When you completely go off and your car fish-tails (it slides so violently it spins around the other way quickly); it's then called a spin out.

A squeal is when you turn too fast, are on a road with a lot of slick tar, or have bad tires and they make a feedback squealing noise. It's is also when you take off too fast and the tires spin in place because they could not hold traction because the they are spinning to fast. Squealing the tires (or doing a burnout) is prohibited in many places as a driving hazard (for you need to be mashing the accelerator) and a noise violation. (its very loud)

If your driving on water (rain, etc, it's all the same) and you loose control, it's called a hydroplane. (hydro = water) It happens when water gets between your car's wheels and the road and your car is suddenly suspended on water and you lose complete control. It's caused when your going too fast and your tires cannot push water away fast enough, or when there's a slick puddle. (be careful for dirt/dust/grime on the road can combine with normal rain causing extra slick roadways in a sprinkle of rain)

I boldfaced the actual phrases in case your in a hurry or do not wish to read it all.

Who is at fault if there are parked cars on both sides blocking your visibility and you get rear ended while backing out very slowly?

Unfortunately this is a sad situation.Just like when you have a stop sign at an intersection and the street you are turning into doesn't have a stop sign, the drivers without the stop sign have the right of way so they trust that you will not be entering the street until it's clear.

Obviously if they are driving recklessly and too fast they cause the accident but from the eyes of the police, they put you at fault, when you back up you have to check for pedestrians and any car movement.

make sure the cars blocking your visibility had not been parked illegally, that can be a decisive factor to avoid any claims just in case you go to court.

Is it best to use neutral at traffic lights or foot brake?

If you have a manual gearbox you should use neutral AND foot brake at traffic lights.

If you have automatic you can leave it in Drive with your foot firmly on the foot brake. (Some instructors would tell you to move it to neutral and keep your foot on the foot brake.)

What makes you a good bus driver?

A good bus driver is in this order:

  • A safe driver
  • A calm driver
  • A smooth driver
  • A driver that is good with the size vehicle.

In addition a Charter or Intercity driver that has to deal with customer needs to be:

  • A people person
  • Know how to speak to and deal with angry customers
  • Be suited to being away from home.

Truck drivers very often miss out on people skills and smooth driving skills.

This is why bus driving is an unrecognised specialty except in the busing industry.

What should you do if your accelerator pedal gets stuck?

You should put the vehicle in neutral and pull over to a safe place (if you're on the freeway use the emergency shoulder on the right-hand side). Once the vehicle is completely stopped, keep it in neutral and shut off the engine. Then you should probably have it towed to a shop and have a mechanic check it out.

How much longer does it take a car to stop on ice?

Assuming all else is equal (no specialized snow/ice tires, equal driver reaction time etc.) it will take a lot longer. Up to ten times longer. If the ice is on a downward-sloping hill, there is a chance that a car cannot stop at all, until it slides to the bottom of the hill or hits an object along the way down.

Winter tires, either studded or not, SIGNIFICANTLY help on ice, especially studded. Although Illegal in some areas/states, studded tires make driving on snow/ice as effortless and safe as on dry asphalt. If you're ever driving on slippery roads and come upon a situation where you need to brake hard, remember that if you slam on the brakes you will slowly start stopping, but you will not be able to change direction--you will keep going straight until you stop. I found that many times it's safer to not stop, and simply turn your car to the left or right (which is much easier/faster to do than coming to a complete stop), and simply go around the obstacle that would otherwise force you to stop. If you're at a busy intersection, this might not be good advice, but I'd still rather slide my car into a ditch alongside the road than rear-end someone and have my insurance rates raised.

Should someone with a chordoma brain tumor drive?

If a person has a medical condition that could interfere with the safe operation of a motorvehicle, they should not drive. How long after having Ativan can you drive?

You have to make your own judgement about your physical condition after taking Ativan before you doze off while driving. When fatigue kicks in, you may not even notice that your eyes are shot. And when you realize that, it may be, sadly, too late. And that without even having Ativan. Always consider you abilities and how far you go after taking medication.
