The Temple, which is the center of the square, took over 40 years to build (completed in 1893). It's construction was begun by Brigham Young, but it was not completed until Wilford Woodruff was President of the Church.

The Tabernacle, where the Mormon Tabernacle Choir sings, was constructed in the 1860's, its construction was overseen by Brigham Young. It replaced a temporary Bowery, which was used to hold large meetings.

The Endowment House was built under the direction of Brigham Young used as a "temporary temple" from 1855 until Wilford Woodruff ordered it's destruction in 1889.

Additional buildings, such as the family history library, the church history and art museum, the conference center (dedicated in 2000), the relief society building and the church office building, were added later by subsequent church presidents. What is the driving time between Salt Lake City UT and Orange County CA?

Speaking from experience, the driving time between Salt Lake City, UT, and Orange County, CA, is about 12 hours when taking I-15. Since the atlas gives 734 miles between SLC and LA, this is about right. If you expect to travel at summer peak, I recommend passing through the Virgin River Gorge, located at the northeast corner of Arizona, after dark. I remember it as the hottest part of our trip.
