Does plastic constrain a magnetic field?

Not really. Plastics are almost all hydrocarbons, and the magnetic field lines go right through plastics like the plastics were invisible. That's the short answer, but it contains the essentials.

How do plants absorb water from the soil?

Roots have hairs on the tips that soak up the water and they then soak the water up the plant and then the water is transported to the other veins in the leaf.

When you tap a glass with a little water in it It has a high pitch when you tap a glass with water filled to the top it has a low pitch why does this happen?

Glass has a natural frequency at which it vibrates, known as its resonant frequency. If you put energy into the substance at its resonant frequency, you will force it to vibrate or resonate (resonance is a forced vibration). So, tapping imparts energy to the glass molecules and causes them to resonate. This motion sets up a wave of vibration traveling through the glass. The vibrating glass causes air molecules to vibrate similarly. The vibrating air molecules are the sound wave that you hear (the frequency or pitch of the sound wave is the same as the resonant frequency of the glass). As the resonant wave moves through the glass, it moves the water molecules with it, creating a wave of water that you can see near the edge of the glass. The dragging water molecules effectively increase the mass (both the water and the glass molecules) and reduce the energy of the wave traveling through the glass. When the energy is reduced, so is the frequency of the wave in the glass, which is reflected in the pitch of the sound wave that you hear.

In simpler terms, when you tap a glass with a lot of water in it, there are fewer vibrations because they have more trouble traveling through the higher mass. Thus, the lower pitch.

Which freeze faster salt water or tap water?

Put both in the freezer and use a timer. It must be in a freezer, because if you have ever heard of super-cooled water, a lack of vibrations causes water to remain liquid below the normal freezing point (0 degrees Celsius), that is if it is not disturbed at all.

The apparent motion of the sun in the sky is caused?

Stars move very fast through space (millions of miles per hour), but because of our distance from them, they appear to move very slowly if at all. The stars we see move the most are the Sun and moon and the other 7 planets of the Solar System. The Sun and stars moves across the sky because the Earth revolves upon its axis, which causes us to see days and nights. The movement of the moon is due to its orbiting the earth and the constant spinning of the Earth. Because the Earth spins, the moon rises approximately 40 minutes later each day. The movement of the planets is caused by their orbit of the Sun and also the Earths. As we go around the sun, our vantage point changes, so objects in the sky appear to move more than they actually do.

Do your farts contain carbon dioxide?

No. They are mostly methane, with a little regular air, and water vapor. Methane, of course, is also a greenhouse gas, as is carbon dioxide.

What is Redi's conclusion in experiment?

John Needham is credited for tests that gave bearing to the belief of spontaneous generation, or the sudden creation of life. His tests involved boiling broth mixtures to remove any existing bacteria, then cooling them and sealing them. This ended up being debunked, as the broth mixtures not only weren't boiled long enough to actually kill the bacteria, but also were cooled in open air, which would have allowed bacteria in.

Models help ecologisits control the many variables in their studies?

Ecology is the study of interactions among organisms. In ecology are quick and done in a lab models help.

How much liquid an a beaker hold?

That depends on the size of the beaker, some are very small holding 50 ml and some are very large, holding 1000 or 2000 ml. There are many beaker sizes in between these two and some more on either side. To have your answer you would have to look an an individual beaker and see what it's carrying capacity is.

What are the building blocks of DNA and RNA?

NucleotidesNucleotides are the monomers, building blocks, of nucleic acids (DNA and RNA). Each nucleotide includes three components: a phosphate, a sugar, and a nitrogenous base. The phosphate is bonded to the sugar through phosphodiester bonds and makes up the backbone of the molecule. The nitrogenous bases form the "rungs" of the ladder and are connected through hydrogen bonds. The phosphate is the same in DNA and RNA, but the sugar can be a ribose (for RNA) or a deoxyribose (for DNA). The latter is a ribose without "de-" one oxygen "-oxy-". There are four available nitrogenous bases in a DNA's nucleotides: adenine, thymine, guanine, and cytosine. RNA nucleotides feature the same bases with the exception of uracil, which replaces thymine.

How are different soil types affected by water running over it?

More porous soil (sandy soil) facilitate better movement of water under the ground where as clay obstruct it.

Draw the diagrams to show how particles of a solid liquid and gas are distriduted?

A substance in a solid phase is relatively rigid, has a definite volume and shape.

The atoms or molecules that comprise a solid are packed close together and are not compressible.

Because all solids have some thermal energy, its atoms do vibrate. However, this movement is very small and very rapid, and cannot be observed under ordinary conditions.

What are the different types of solids?

There are four types of crystalline solids --

Ionic solids-- These substances have a definite melting point and contain ionic bonds. An example would be sodium chloride (NaCl). View the 3-D structure of a salt crystal.

Covalent solids -- These substance appear as a single giant molecule made up of an almost endless number of covalent bonds. An example would be graphite. View the 3-D structure of graphite).

Molecular solids are represented as repeating units made up of molecules. An example would be ice. View the 3-D structure of ice.Metallic solids are repeating units made up of metal atoms. The valence electrons in metals are able to jump from atom to atom.

Amorphous solids

Amorphous solids do not have a definite melting point or regular repeating units. An amorphous solid is a solid in which there is no long-range order of the positions of the atoms unlike those in crystalline solids. An example of an amorphous solid is window glass. In addition many polymers such as polystyrene are amorphous.Amorphous solids can exist in two distinct states, the 'rubbery' state and the 'glassy' state. The temperature at which they transition between the glassy and rubbery states is called their glass transition temperature or Tg.

Interesting Note on Solids: While no mass at all is an impossibility, aerogels seem to come pretty close. Aerogels are the lightest solids and have a density of 1.9 mg per cm3 or 1.9 kg/m3 (526.3 times lighter than water). Sometimes called frozen smoke, aerogels are open-cell polymers with pores less than 50 nanometers in diameter.

What are the properties of a Liquid?

Liquids have a definite volume, but are able to change their shape by flowing.

Liquids are similar to solids in that the particles touch. However the particles are able to move around.

Since particles are able to touch the densities of liquid will be close to that of a solid.

Since the liquid molecules can move they will take the shape of their container.

What are the specific properties of liquids?

Viscosity --The resistance of a liquid to flow is called its viscosity

Surface Tension -- The result of attraction between molecules of a liquid which causes the surface of the liquid to act as a thin elastic film under tension. Surface tension causes water to form spherical drops.

Vapor Pressure -- The pressure that a solid or liquid exerts when it is in equilibrium with its vapor at a given temperature.

Boiling Point -- when vapor pressure = atmospheric pressure.

What are the properties of a Gas?

Gases have no definite volume or shape. If unconstrained gases will spread out indefinitely. If confined they will take the shape of their container. This is because gas particle have enough energy to overcome attractive forces. Each of the particles are well separated resulting in a very low density.

What is the fourth state of matter?

The fourth state of matter is plasma. Plasma is an ionized gas, a gas into which sufficient energy is provided to free electrons from atoms or molecules and to allow both species, ions and electrons, to coexist. In effect a plasma is a cloud of protons, neutrons and electrons where all the electrons have come loose from their respective molecules and atoms, giving the plasma the ability to act as a whole rather than as a bunch of atoms. Plasmas are the most common state of matter in the universe comprising more than 99% of our visible universe and most of that not visible. Plasma occurs naturally and makes up the stuff of our sun, the core of stars and occurs in quasars, x-ray beam emitting pulsars, and supernovas. On earth, plasma is naturally occurring in flames, lightning and the auroras. Most space plasmas have a very low density, for example the Solar Wind which averages only 10 particles per cubic-cm. Inter-particle collisions are unlikely - hence these plasmas are termed collisionless.

And now a fifth state -- Bose Einstein?

The collapse of the atoms into a single quantum state is known as Bose condensation or Bose-Einstein condensation is now considered a 5th state of matter.

Recently, scientists have discovered the Bose-Einstein condensate, which can be thought of as the opposite of a plasma. It occurs at ultra-low temperature, close to the point that the atoms are not moving at all. A Bose-Einstein condensate is a gaseous superfluid phase formed by atoms cooled to temperatures very near to absolute zero. The first such condensate was produced by Eric Cornell and Carl Wieman in 1995 at the University of Colorado at Boulder, using a gas of rubidium atoms cooled to 170 nanokelvins (nK). --Under such conditions, a large fraction of the atoms collapse into the lowest quantum state, producing a superfluid. This phenomenon was predicted in the 1920s by Satyendra Nath Bose and Albert Einstein, based on Bose's work on the statistical mechanics of photons, which was then formalized and generalized by Einstein.

Iron ore is made of what mineral?

Iron ore is typically an oxide of iron. Haematite is very commonly mined this is a mineral form of Fe2O3. Magnetite has been mined , this is a form of Fe3O4.

How do you remove iron filings?

By getting a magnet and hovering it over your skin or whatever it is stuck to.

I hope I helped you !

When did the Large Hadron Collider start?

As of this writing, no, it is not. Maybe spring of 2009. At least that's the word on the street. Protons were successfully circulated just recently, but there is a problem with a couple of the bending magnets which are used to accelerate and guide the beam around the curves in the plumbing. A shutdown was scheduled for the winter anyway, and now they'll add the problem of "fixing" the magnets to their "to-do list" of over-winter activities. You'll find a link to the Wikipedia post on the LHC below.

What is pitch controlled by?

It can be controlled by many things, but here are at least three:

Length of the vocal cords.

Thickness of the vocal cords.

And stress on the vocal cords.

That of course, it is the human body.

If your talking about, say, a guitar amp, it's controlled by the little nob that says 'pitch' on it.

Explain why it is a good idea to read all instructions before beginning an experiment?

If you do not read all the instructions before doing a experiment, something bad could happen. If you are dealling with chemicals in a science experiment, something could explode, turn into a terrible gas. Also, instructions will tell you is you should or should not breath in right near a substance, or touch one.

Which has more thermal energy a cup of hot tea or a pitcher of juice?

First note that "thermal energy" is a term that became obsolete about 200 years ago. The correct term is "Internal Energy". "Thermal energy" was a term that was in use when people thought of energy as being some kind of fluid called "caloric" that was transferred between things at different temperatures.

Because the pitcher of juice almost certainly has much more mass than a cup of some hot beverage, we would expect it to have more internal energy.
