How does a swordtail fish breathe?
For one you need to be able to tell the difference between male and female.
Males always have the sword on their tail and are normally bright coloured or speckled. Females don't have the sword and look anything between whitey grey to orangey or yellowy even speckled.
If a female is pregnant you will start to notice her baby bump in a week or two. It is a good idea that you separate her or even better put in a few LIVE plants or hidey holes for cover so the baby fish can hide so they wont be eaten by their mother or father or anyone else for that matter.
What sharks been found in the northeast river?
I'd say there's a http:/skool.com of sharks in the James river. don't go swimming in the water!
There are no sharks in the James River. It's perfectly safe to go swimming in.
While the previous entry states there are no sharks in the James River, and while I have never personally seen any sharks in the James River, I have found evidence of sharks in the Appomattox and James Rivers. I grew up in City Point, of Hopewell Va. It is a peninsula made by the convergence of the James and Appomattox Rivers. As a boy, I fished on the Appomattox River bank quite often. I would find shark teeth on the river bank, it was quite common to find shark teeth. So, if there are no sharks in the Appomattox and James Rivers, then how did the teeth get there? We were told as youth they were dog shark teeth. The teeth were definitely shark teeth and were about 1inch long. Supposedly the dog shark is the most common shark around. Here is a link regarding such a shark.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
THIS IS THE CASE:
I live in Prince George VA and commonly FOSSIL hunt on the James. These sharks teeth you have found are simply FOSSIL teeth. Modern living sharks have white teeth. Some teeth fossilize white due to the minerals which seep into the original during the fossilization process. This entire area was a sea from the Eocene era to the end of the Miocene. Mega-toothed sharks such as Carcharodon megalodon (Megalodon, the largest to ever live, with up to 7" teeth), Giant makos, and extinct forms of Great White, Tiger, and Mackerel shark teeth are just a few species that can be found in this area. Also saltwater crocodile teeth and dermal scutes, sea turtle shell fragments, whale bone, as well as many invertebrate species that colonize coral reefs can be found. The thing is, they are all FOSSILS. Sorry to shoot down the idea of sharks in the James (I wish!!!).
Another note: Bull sharks can survive and breed in fresh water, however the temperatures at this latitude are not temperate enough for them, even in ocean waters.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Actually Bull sharks roam the shallows off of Nags head and Virginia beach and has claimed victims from both. Please feel free to use google. Secondly ive been catfishing all my life including in the james river, most recently, mainly once about 5 years ago I saw a 60 pound blue catfish with incredible girth a formidable predator that the james river is known for, with a very large set of bite marks that were too clean to be anything but sharp teeth, and too wide to be anything in fresh water, no pike or gar, still have the picture as proof. None have been seen but does not mean they are not there, since i seen that fish i havent been in the water even while handling fish, used to swim as a kid.
further note: Not to mention a large 9 foot bull shark was caught 311 miles up the mississippi river. the epicenter of the james river is only 150 miles from the ocean.
A shark's diet is usually fish or other sharks. Sometimes it's even whales or jellyfish. Marine animals.
Sharks have been feared one because of the movie "Jaws," and two because humans were just naturally scared of them.
Well in a way it's pretty obvious their rows and rows of razer sharp blood covered teeth, their beedy eyes, their ability to smell blood and food from hundreds of miles away, their iron frame, most of the time it's impossible to fight one off. Most of the fear is contributed to the fact that you can't fight a shark unless underwater and it's harder to see and move your limbs in that state theres a way to escape if you punch them fiercly on the nose but the fact that its near impossible to escape a shark attack is usually the reason. Jaws is definitely a contributor though, a huge one.
Did the megalodon live before dinosaurs?
C. megalodon was definitely an apex predator for more than 20 million years.
Amazingly, this doen not mean megalodons could not have been preyed by other very large predators.
During the Miocene, very large predators, like Livyatan melvillei, shared the same waters, and searching for the same preys. Encounters were inevitable.
This predatory odontoceti cetacian could reached the same size of extant sperm whales, or even larger. Confirmed lenght of more than 17 metres is accepted today by paleontologists, but VERY FEW fossils of this apex predatory whale were found. Larger individuals are a probabilistic certitude.
Moreover, Livyatan melvillei had not only teeth in BOTH upper and lower jaws - unlike sperm whales - but they had much larger teeth than megalodon (36 cm lenght confirmed).
(As a matter of fact, Livyatan melvillei had the largest teeth EVER found in a carnivorous predator, incuding tyranosaurus, pliosaurs, mosasaurs and...
...megalodons!)
And Livyatan melvillei most probably hunted in packs, and were formidable predators.
About the maximum size of C. megalodon, the present consensus among paleontologists is that megalodons probabiy had an average lenght of about 16 metres, and large specimens could be not much more than 20.3 metres, according to the fossil teeth and vertebra centra available at the time of this consensus.
In the meantime, a considerable larger fossil teeth was found, with 193.67 millimetres (7.625 inches) in total height (previously, the maximum fossil teeth height was 168 millimetres (6.6 inches).
The truth is nobody knows for sure how large a megadolon could be.
Why cant great white sharks stop swimming?
Great white sharks swim in the ocean because they are very big sea creatures. They need space to swim, and hunt for food. Also, they like to swim near the deepest, darkest, coldest bottom of the ocean.
Where is megalodon sharks found?
megalodon is a cryptozoological creature which is likely to live deep underwater possibly as deep as the marianas trench scientists say he is extinct of course whenever an animal grows beyond the usual size that one would expect it to be for its species suddenly the animal is now a (myth) and no longer exists. Its likely this behavior in humans according to me is that they cannot believe its true. example if you told people in the medeival erra that one day their will be ships that fly in the air 200 times faster than they can sail they would call you mad maybe even hang you if you never shut up about the future. Bottom line megalodon is REAL. The biggest shark in the world anywhere between 25 feet to 60 feet maybe even over 100 feet if he lives long enough and eats good. less than 1% of the ocean is explored whos to say he's extinct i'm telling you they are lying to us.
Are leopard sharks zebra sharks?
It depends. The zebra shark (Stegostoma fasciatum) is a carpet shark that lives on reefs in warm water, but it is sometimes called the leopard shark. However, the leopard shark (Triakis semifasciata) is a cold water species of houndshark.
Even though sharks don't have a bony skeleton like many other fish, they are still categorized with other vertebrates.

Is a hammerhead shark a consumer?
Great white sharks are carnivorous, and primarily eat fish (including rays, tuna, and smaller sharks), dolphins, porpoises, whale carcasses and pinnipeds such as seals, fur seals and sea lions and sometimes sea turtles. Sea otters and penguins are attacked at times although rarely, if ever, eaten. Great whites have also been known to eat objects that they are unable to digest. In great white sharks above 3.41 m (11 ft, 2 in) a diet consisting of a higher proportion of mammals has been observed.[16] These sharks prefer prey with high contents of energy-rich fat. They are at the top of the food chain, and are indeed consumers.
What are some uses of a bladder in a fish?
To urinate, if you mean the urinary bladder. If you mean the swim bladder, it is to be able to change its depth in the water. It has a way to vent air from the gills to the swim bladder, and from the swim bladder to the digestive tract. So the fish would inflate the bladder to be able to rise and deflate the bladder to go lower.
